I didn't really like this album when I first heard it a few years back. Recently gave it another listen and it immediately became one of my favorite jazz albums. I think I wasn't able to hear all the nuances and appreciate the musical diversity the first time around.

Forgot to comment on this, but regarding "B"itches Brew, I remember trying to get into this album years and years ago, but just couldn't.  I was always into the more structured and melodic jazz-forms, so it just never worked for me.  Having said that, as a "jazz fan", I guess I should give it another shot.  We'll see.

Anyway, heard this in a restaurant today...

bookmarking. ive always wanted to get into more jazz (hearing rappers talk abt how much more money they have/how "my girl" is doing strange things to them is getting tiring). this thread may be a good place to start. to page 1 i go...

^ Always nice to see new jazz-listeners.  I guess, you should try to sample all the different types of jazz... standards, acid-jazz/fusion, contemporary jazz, etc... as well as big bands, smaller groups (trios, quartets, quintets, etc), solo acts, etc... just to see what you like.  

Of course, IMO, there are the must-have albums for any jazz fan...

'Sup TheGr8BlkHope. Welcome to Wes' thread...Sinner P already recommended Miles Davis Kind of Blue which would be a great older album to start with. For something new I'd recommend Robert Glasper's In My Element.
