Since we're talking about that topic, i remember being told about the turn on Elder and Portuguese pundits/people really ****ting on him after the Euros. Never really followed up on it for obvious "f that *****" reasons

Yea. Bad history.

But Portugal have made tremendous strides since the 80’s. They teach everything about Portugal’s at a young age in school. Nothing is hidden unless you go to a Private School.

Free citizenships for all. It won’t make up for anything but we’re trying.

Portugal have also done a good job of becoming more secular. Which is important to for progression.

Also one of the rare Western countries that are decisively against the right wing and Neo Nazi wave taking over Europe and the US. Wasn’t even close.

Of course there’s still improvements to be made, but in 2022 I feel like it’s one of the few countries actually progressing.

Meanwhile almost every other country is either already at a 50-50 split, dangerously close to having a majority, or already at that point. Italy is now literally run by a rebrand of Mussolini’s party…

Turn on Eder?

Bro…..Eder is literally a SAINT. A deity.

I’d go to see him play at Braga before the Euros with my cousins. They loved him then too.

I think it’s because his career ended quickly which isn’t too surprising. He was decent but not good.

Still a legend tho.

Portugal literally the most liberal country in Europe.

The turn since the fascist Salazar has been remarkable.

All this in just 30-40 years.

Progression is possible with EDUCATION - It starts there.

I agree with what others in here have said in terms of not feeling the usual excitement and buzz going into this World Cup. The human rights issues, corruption, and move to the winter have definitely marred this tournament to an extent. That said, once the sporting event starts I’m probably going to revert back to the child in me that used to collect Panini albums

And the progression is due to EDUCATION.

Speaking of education, I think the country’s main flaw is the lack of work for educated people . Many of the the highly educated younger population just end up going overseas because of the lack of advancement in their careers.

I’m sure I could find a job there, but I don’t want to wait til I’m 50+ to earn the money I deserve because I have to wait for all the nepotism hires/senior positions who don’t do @$&$ to retire or die out. It’s a common theme in Southern Europe/some Asian countries and is pretty much the ONLY reason anyone moves to countries like the US.

Speaking of which my mom sent me this pic last week. Haven’t seen it since I was little kid.

Me and my Pops.

Must say he has a fire tracksuit.

Yea all this education and not many jobs. Portugal needs to fix that.

But Education needed to be first. They made the right choice.

He was still living in France during this time off and on until I was like 4-5.

He’d come here for 8 months then back to Paris because of Visa situation.
Man, in this picture you pops looks just like the Portuguese I used to see growing up. One of my closest friend's Mom fled Salazar and his pops had the same thick *** mustache. First time he saw me, his first word was "preto" tho 😅

Salazar is such a stain.

If it was this generation of Portuguese people and Salazar was still alive - we’d kill him on the streets. No joke.

As opposed to Spain and Italy who still praise their fascists all the time. Very weird.

Very excited!

NYCFC will pay full instead of using NY taxpayer's money. A big W

Let's go!

Won MLS Cup and get a stadium in NYC first before Red Bulls. Red Bulls fans must be really pissed off

Very dope. Here in Miami there’s still a golf course where the club’s new stadium is supposed to go. I’m starting to doubt whether it’ll ever get done. The owners seem too comfortable in Fort Lauderdale..

I don't blame you about having doubts. I understand how you feel. Who is the primary owner for Inter Miami? I only know Beckham is one of the group tho

The Willets Point development plan started in 2007. It failed due to the lease thing garage owners have in Willets Point. Wilpons are low tier millionaire people so they cannot afford buying. Then the case got re-opened two years ago
