Nets try to involve Pistons in three-team trade for Carmelo Anthony
WASHINGTON -- The Nets are trying to involve the Pistons in a three-team deal that would bring Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey, league sources said.
In the complicated scenario that’s being discussed, the Nets would send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and at least two first-round picks to Denver and Troy Murphy’s expiring contract to the Pistons. In return, the Nets would get Anthony and Chauncey Billups from the Nuggets and likely Richard Hamilton from the Pistons, who are looking to shed salary. Hamilton has two years and $25 million remaining on his contract.
There are many more players involved to make the salaries match, but this is one of multiple things the Nets are discussing in an effort to land Anthony. They also are trying to trade with Denver straight up for the All-Star small forward.
The Nuggets have a standing offer of Favors, Murphy and at least two first-round picks. But if something like that happens it may not be until around the Feb. 24 trade deadline. The Nuggets don’t want to pay Murphy’s salary right now but may be more willing when less is owed to him.

Rip is crossing his fingers this deal goes through.

Sam Amick writes that not only is it not an option for the Nuggets to lose Carmelo Anthony next summer without compensation, neither is trading him to a Western Conference team that is willing to deal for Anthony without a contract extension.
"There's really only two things that (Masai Ujiri) can do that will guarantee this comes back on him," said a source close to the Nuggets. "Not trading him and losing him for nothing is one, or having that happen (referring to losing him long-term to a Western Conference team on the cheap)."
Amick portrays the standoff as a blinking contest between Anthony, who only wants to end up in New York, and the Nuggets, who prefer to deal him to New Jersey.
Amick writes that the New York front office remains confident that Anthony will be in a Knick uniform sooner or later.
League sources tell Amick that Denver plans to hold on to Anthony until close to the trade deadline to ensure that the Nuggets receive the best possible return.
