I think it's disingenuous to say winning does not matter anymore. I think we're just able to have more nuanced conversations and capture the entire context underlying a matchup than just "Team A beat Team B so Player A must be better than Player B".
chris paul looked washed at the end of last year. he got traded to a team that everyone presumed would tank. there was speculation that a team like miami could put together a trade package for him. Despite that, he changed his diet, and was the leader of a team that outperformed expectations.
when you say the bar was lowered, where did you set the bar for Chris Paul individually and the Thunder as a team?

Brogdon doing well against Miami in round 1 makes the bucks not wanting to pay the tax to keep him even more impactful
I’ve always felt that the way the game is shaped, played right now, is a detriment to players like Giannis and even LeBron to a certain extent. As big as these dudes are, the athletic strengths that both enjoy, are wasted on the perimeter. Yeah, being able to pat the rock and pump a three is cool and all, but when it comes time for their teammates to show and prove? They are out of rhythm, lacking the confidence to finish when need be.
The hyper usage perimeter path to winning a championship has only been done like 3x.

More defined Systems where teammates are empowered and involved lead to more consistent winning. I think whoever comes outta that Celtics/Raptors series is going to surprise people. And if Tatum keeps hovering around 25ppg...and the other guys contribute and chip in...you can have something weird happen. And Boston win a chip.
I think KD as a whole was a different situation because regardless of if GSW beat him, he joined a 73-9 team that almost won the Finals. However, it seems like folks have moved past heavily slandering players for those types of moves. For example, Bron going to LA and essentially forcing the AD trade. Kawhi going to LAC only when he locked up another Top 15 player in the regular season.
All three situations (KD, Kawhi and Lebby) are different but at the heart of it they went to a team where they had the best chances of winning and Lebby/Kawhi didn't catch a ton of heat so I don't think Yanni will either.

Cp3 done went to the school of “bar being lowered”. Very specific marketing. #Year15 #ProvingHatersWrong #Obscure stat.
Winning does not matter anymore . You get more praise for playing with mediocre talent and coming up short, than being a part of winning. In fact, if you play with other good players...it takes away from your individual talent.
