Harden getting praised for blocking a guy who would've airballed if he was left open. I'm allowing a 24 hour grace period for cp3 slurpy

I’ve always felt that the way the game is shaped, played right now, is a detriment to players like Giannis and even LeBron to a certain extent. As big as these dudes are, the athletic strengths that both enjoy, are wasted on the perimeter. Yeah, being able to pat the rock and pump a three is cool and all, but when it comes time for their teammates to show and prove? They are out of rhythm, lacking the confidence to finish when need be.

You refering to the team mates or the stars with the last point?

For the teammates, the groove is out of sync, they seem to not know if and when they are getting the rock. The lead player has so much on his plate, then at that size during the end of the game, he often does not get the easiest bucket. Due to possible fatigue and D, they’ll rely on the three with everyone standing around.

In what world? LeBron was the best player on the planet in 2011.

You can't be the best player on the planet & get outplayed by Jason Terry for the championship  ... This was the closest i've ever seen to one superstar being responsible for his teams loss.

Chris Paul is an all time great point guard, on the back end of his career. Still good. Still contributes to wins. Him and the thunder over achieved this year. That happens from time to time with great players.

This is being celebrated as like his greatest accomplishment. And It isn’t . He’s been better. He’s had better moments and a string of meltdowns too. People are going to remember Cp3 losing In 7 in the first round with this team, more FONDLY than him finally reaching that arbitrary and elusive “western conference finals” they said he couldn’t....having great games along the way/and also bad ones.

The conversations in basketball now are mostly about who is “carrying a team” (to ultimately L’s). And hypotheticals. And switch player A & B. And Player movement. The culture isn’t about winning or teams really. Yeah...they won.....BUT only because of injuries/talent is more of a slight than somebody putting up big stats with a competent team, but ultimately not winning.

It’s just the nature of it right now.

I disagree and I think you're proving my point. There's nothing wrong with praising him for his performance this year. He exceeded expectations. That doesn't change the lob city clippers and how they couldn't reach a WCF, or how he got to the rockets and got to the WCF but got hurt. Even when comparing, you can take into account the context of the individual seasons you're talking about.

With regards to your comment about what people remember more fondly, I agree to an extent. On one hand, there's literally no comparison to be made in getting to game 7 of the WCF and leading an underdog to a game 7 in the first round. On the other hand, and going to my earlier point, we need to be able to have a nuanced conversation and think about the context of each. The rockets were a top 3 team in the NBA that season and one of the only real threats to the warriors. the rockets steamrolling minnesota and utah on the way is great and he had some good moments along the way.

But people love an underdog story. This year's thunder team was predicted to tank, widely regarded as damaged goods, speculated that they'd miss the playoffs, end up trading everyone, and completely rebuild. last season was the 2nd year in a row CP personally only played 58 games, last year being more injury than just load management. CP shot his worst field goal percentage of his entire career last year. in the playoffs, he averaged 17/6/6 on 45/27/84. By all accounts, he looked absolutely washed. He changed his diet, and had a very productive bounce back year and exceeded expectations. For Chris Paul, in year 15, after looking washed in year 14, with a team that everyone thought was going to tank, he had a good year. It's ok acknowledge that but, and correct me if I'm wrong, it sounds like you're wanting to dismiss his performance this season and whatabout the rest of his career. Yes, the bar is lowered, because context necessitates lowering the bar for him this year, unless you think this team is supposed to compete for a title.
