Man...I feel for Wade. On one hand he really loves the Heat and has no intentions of leaving. But on the other hand I'm sure he's seeing how much power LeBron and KD have, and he knows that in the end--the players are his real family. Micky and Riley work for the League, not the NBAPA. Their number 1 priority is to get the most with the least. I would not fault him one bit for leaving. He deserves to get paid. BUT how could he leave the young guys behind? Winslow, Richardson, TJ, Whiteside? Not to mention an ailing Bosh...not being able to see his triumphant return?
I'm convoluted just thinking about it. But I think he ultimately does come back. The bond he has with the bro's may help ease the sting a bit.
Dwyane Wade was getting paid and decided to opt out to figure out numbers for the Big 3 but LeBron left him. Riley didn't force him to opt out, that was LeBron's doing but that part is going to get forgotten. Wadehad his money but got duped by his friend. It's hard to sympathize with him when he made a bad business move.
An excerpt from a fantastic article about the Wade-Heat dilemma. The Heat would surely love to give Wade every last penny he wants in theory, but paying him what he’s seeking would present significant challenges in practice.
The team currently has $18.9 million of cap space. With that, it could build out a potential three-year, $61 million contract (or even a four-year, $84 million deal).
But, if you were Pat Riley, would you give it to him?
On the surface, the answer is undoubtedly yes. Without hesitation. He rightfully deserves far more than just that.
Underneath that surface, however, lies a bunch of serious problems for the Heat if they do.
no. this isnt the lakers situation. we have 3 max/near max players. we dished out ridiculous contracts and thats whats hurting us now. dragic is on a $90m contract. bosh on 118m. whiteside on 98m. now we've had the REST of our key players stolen by other teams. and wade is still producing at a high level. we chose not to dip into luxury tax... now we're stuck in a really bad situation. we have enough to pay the big contracts, and nothing else. we only have enough pennies to keep the END of the bench here.
This is a hard place to be in as a fan of the HEAT and Wade (the two pretty much go hand in hand)
I do see where Wade is coming from and he's earned for all he has done for the city, fans & franchise. But if we do pay him the money he wants, then we turn into the Lakers the last couple of season with Kobe with no chance of winning. He is our version of Kobe, where he represents the face of the franchise.
With that given said, I wouldn't be able to sleep right seeing Wade in a different uniform, it would be brutal and just wouldn't be right...
