What if I told you that the exposing for some of those guys was due more so to them having to play in college when they were clearly suited for the NBA?

Being underwhelming in college isn't necessarily a determinant for being bad in the league. However, what can happen, is that guys who are more equipped and prepared for NBA play in college, and look bad, and as a result get drafted into undesirable situations and then it just falls from there. Trickle down effect that all started with them not being able to jump from HS to the pros.

Not saying that's the case with all or even most of those guys, but some of those guys probably would have had a better chance at sticking in the league off of sheer volume of opportunity because they would have been lotto picks.

Very fair. I've thought of this before too. Decent assessment.

But I specifically listed those names because to me.....I KNEW they were phony :lol. I'm sure I could find posts of me slandering some of those guys games a few years back.

But good point overall though.

It's amazing to me just how many of you guys think sending 18 year olds to the NFL is a good idea :lol

It's not a good idea at all. However if anyone argues denying basketball players the rite to go pro is wrong because the NCAA is making millions off their back and they're forced to play for free. Then we can't turn a blind eye to the football players and say it's cool because the pro game is tougher. We have to explore a system that's fair for everyone.

There are players who spend 3 and 4 years in college and are bust.

That's the crapshoot of the draft. And it's not a valid reason for me to not allow players to make the jump. Staying in college, and evaluating how good a pro prospect someone is, while watching them play in the confines of NCAA rules, Amateur teammates, Amateur coaching, while balancing academics, then making a conclusion about their NBA chances based on that criteria, is silly.

Bottom line, would all of those guys being drafted to teams really have tainted the game? I still don't even see that, being the worst case scenario..

That's a narrative that's been out there..

Why were the 2000's such a "bad era".. was it really because of the high school kids being allowed in?

i'm glad kobe didnt go to college. bruh would've gone to duke :x

I think that's false. He was going to Chapel Hill. I couldn't have ever rooted for him if he was Dookie back then though, glad things worked out the way they did.

Kobe's game was clearly suited for the NBA.

Imagine him going to college, to play with a bunch of amateurs, with a 35 second shot clock, with college coaching,

He could have easily underperformed and it could of went the other way for him. Someone could have easily assessed College Kobe a certain way and boom. Draft is such a crapshoot, that this **** matters. If we're identifying players in the 11th and 12th grade as being NBA prospects, what sense does it make to evaluate their NBA chances in an NCAA environment?

I mean it's not like we didn't get Kobe, KG, T-Mac, Bron, Dwert etc. from it.

Whether a player is a boom or bust has as much to do with the organization they're drafted to as it does their actual age or talent. Does Kawhi become Kawhi if he's in Indiana instead of San Antonio? Probably not. The GMs and scouts are getting paid big bucks to be talent evaluators, they should be able to do their jobs.

Jermaine O'Neal, Kwame Brown was a bust for his draft position but even he ended up being a serviceable NBA player, Rashard Lewis was an all star, etc.

Josh Smith

Imagine him shooting 20% from 3 in college or even having to post up

:x

were y'all hip to PG in college?
I literally had never heard of him until the draft

i remember jason kapono saying if he went overseas and changed his name to kaponokis, he wouldve been a lotto pick
something to that extent

He's not lying.....

The bias against white American college players is real. The foreign/international appeal is real. Mainly cuz they are unknown, sheltered and play with pros at a young age.

This is how Jan Veesley was seen as a better prospect than say....Mason Plumlee

I can confirm Dragan Bender's rookie season is over. Suns forward undergoes ankle surgery today, source said.
