Official 2012 Boxing Thread: JMM/Manny IV - FOTY.

900

I just can't wait for this on Monday.

Speaking of deaths in the ring, why they're allowing JT to fight Kid Chocolate is stunning to me.

PBF is gonna fight Ghost. I'm more convinced of that now. Hell, GBP is ****** up enough to still put Cotto/Canelo together.

WOW! I JUST SAW TEH FIGHT MAN!!!!

had to avoid the internet and radio it's been excruciating

but wellw orth it. That **** would have been worth 100 bucks wowww man

got very scared when pac was down on the ground that long it was hard to watch him

SERIOUS QUESTION....

I know there is drug testing post fight... If for some reason the winning boxer tests positive for banned substances what happens to the victory?

Im really asking from a betting perspective in a casino atmosphere where you recieve the actual betting ticket for placing the bet... If you had Marquez last night then ofcourse you cashed your ticket... But how about all the people that bet Pacquiao. If for some crazy *** reason the WIN is takin from Marquez due to testing positive what happens to those tickets?

It's not like the casinos can get their bread back from everyone who bet on Marquez and cashed... So what do they do for everyone that bet the other side and the victory gets overturned?

I live in Vegas and had a couple hunna on PAC... My people had racks on him and just tossed the tickets. I have said tickets in my possesion now. LOL.

I don't know about the betting, I never bet a fight that got overturned. What they would do is label it a no contest I believe.

Good looks. Thanks for the info.

In my last 10 or so years of being a boxing spectator I've never seen a victory get overturned... If it has happened I've never seen it. I just want to know how the sportsbooks handle it.

No. You would not get paid, its final in terms of betting.

You can go ahead and throw away the ticket

It won't get overturned. Lamont Peterson was on PEDs when he fought Amir Khan. The officiating and judging were also horrible in that fight, but the victory remains intact. I don't think Marquez will test positive. He was probably on EPO and that can be cleared from the body in just 24 hours.

Pac is better off fighting Bradley. There is no way coming off that brutal ko can he facr anyone with any pop. Mathysse will scramble pac's brain same way Glenn did Roy after tarver

Could see Pacman pursue Rios, if a 5th fight with JMM isn't made.

We all know how much Uncle Bob loves his in-house fights.

At last Marquez got the win. :smokin

I don't see how marquez got stronger, its just Pac got weaker, he doesn't train and work out as much since he's a senator. Roach said in 24/7 that pac was what 5lb over coming into training camp and JMM has been trainning since Sept.
JMM came in as a well tune engine, while pacquio came in as a car running but not revling up. JMM also looked solid vs Katsidis(sp). Was that before Angel, his condition coach?

Pac almost got the win in the fifth. JMM with that karate kid stance backing off. Did you see that?
I also notice pac stepping on Jmm foot.

When that KO in the 6th happen, I was jumping all over the room while my wife and her family were dogging me :wow: I'm mex. Wife is half mex, half filipino. family is filipino...my cousins were there too, all cheering... Still shock that happen to Pac.

Pac is still a champ.

I say both retire. Let the younger guys make noise now.

I don't get all this hate on Pacquiao. I wouldn't find joy in seeing any fighter go out cold like that, not even Adrien Broner, who I don't like very much. It's not his fault the judges gave him the decision last time. No matter how you judged it, it was still close. So it wasn't a robbery.

Exactly. As an admitted Pac stan I can understand how annoying it is to deal with us but damn, it's not like this dude is some sort of thug. There's some vitriol in these people to see him succeed like he did the past four years. And these decisions are not up to him, so chill with that talk. I think it's very similar to how LeBron was viewed prior to him winning last year. You have to understand after a knockout like that there's serious concern of any real damage and for a good minute I honestly thought he was dead. Guess people enjoy that type of thing, as sick as it is. Regardless, props to JMM. Must have been tough for him losing all those matches to Pac then finally getting his due.

I think JMM is on something....idk what...but i don't believe he was clean

Why is the media making it seem like this wasn't that big of a deal? The headlines are like "Marquez finally gets retribution". I understand manny was building some steam and just got caught flush and basically walked into an overhand right. But if JMM is not on some sort of roids.....he just KOed an all time great in what will probably be the KO of the year. Just seeing Manny lay face down motionless on the canvas was a shocking sight to me. But the media is seemingly down playing it idk why.

I also want to give TONS of props to Manny. Takes a real man to keep composure like he has after 2 losses. The man has never shied away from a fight. He said it himself...his job is to fight. Everyone knew JMM gives him fits....yet still said lets do it again and was up for a fifth. And when he got robbed against Bradley he was very gracious in defeat even though any normal person would have been flipping out. Props to you Pacman. You learn a lot about who a man is when times are tough.

Don't know if this has been posted yet but here is Ariza's thoughts on why Manny lost

Marquez was training to land that KO punch on Manny

Nice find! Yeah, that a perfectly executed counter punch. It's a jab slip to the outside, and you line up your straight right to the dude's chin as he is coming in. It gets practiced by all boxers, but I always thought it was really hard to pull off in sparring with these kind of results .

Kinda late, but here's my quick thoughts on the fight:

  • No need for a 5th fight. These dude's have proven everything already. I honestly think a 5th fight would be exciting as hell, but it's reached the point where there's really nothing more to prove. Each fight would go either way each and everytime with them. And everytime by the skin of someone's teeth. That's how great these guys are.
  • Marquez has finally proven he's on par with Pac. After this fight, dude should get all the respect he had always deserved. You can call the KO punch lucky, but one can't argue he didn't put himself in the position for that punch with all the time he put in with his training. He put in his work, and reaped the benefits.
  • Pac still had the power behind his punches, but it's pretty clear he's lost some of his legendary speed. Even back then, I was always more in awe of his speed rather than his power.
  • These 2 are just made for each other. Straight and simple. You just cannot define one's career without the other.
  • After seeing the fight, I could see why most people would want Pac to retire already. But, I think he still has one, and I say just one big fight within him. He's a born fighter and there's just no way he let's this be his swan song. Given that he still has one more fight left, I would really love to see him finally match up against Floyd. True Floyd may not want to fight him anymore, but he should go up to him and be the better man and ask for the fight himself. Discounted or not. That's the only match he should take. The grand finale. If it ain't available then I say he should just swallow his pride and just retire.
