I wasn't saying the signing of Felton was bad, it definitely wasn't. But my point was, if they start signing mid-level guys to deals, it's going to start affecting their flexibility in the future. Walsh and co. can't be giving guys 2-3 year deals for the next couple years if they really want to get Chris Paul.Originally Posted by nYcHipHopHippo

Feltons deal has a team option on the year where the 2 best pgs in the league will be free agents. Donnie is a beast of a GM and I believe he's going to maintain cap flexibility until he puts his own big 3 together.
Suffering may have been a stretch, but there isn't no way New York stays in the hunt for a top playoff seed (1-4) AND stay in contention for Chris Paul in two years.
Miami, Boston, Chicago, Orlando.
They won't be topping any of those teams with JUST Carmelo, Amare, and Raymond Felton, especially if they're going to be keeping guys for a year, renting them out, in hopes of getting someone better in two years (Chris Paul). With the core they'd have if they traded for Carmelo, until they get extra help, they'd be in the same group as Milwaukee and Altanta, second-tier. If yall end up wtih Carmelo, things will be very thin for yall. Don't give me nothing about Andy Rautins, Bill Walker, or Wilson Chandler,
Getting Amar'e is a great piece. You need that cornerstone guy now. Carmelo is that guy. If they get him, more credit to him, but the real job will be done if he can get Chris Paul. I'm not willing to call anyone a beast of a GM yet. If you're that bad for so long, you're eventually going to accumulate great pieces. Be bad for so long, you compile lots of good prospects (Danilo, AR [acquired from a 20/10 guy]), and you get very nice cap relief. It's the reward of being on the bottom for so long. If he can construct this team, stay in the middle of the pack of the East, then go all-out in 2012, THEN I'll say he's a beast.
He still has a lot to work to do, Amar'e isn't the end of the road, and quite frankly, neither is Carmelo.
