thats a terrible trade for the nets... they would be setting themselves back... and also would be a bad trade for melo who claims he wants to win... its not going to happen on a 12 win team especially without harris and lopez...id assume the nuggets would take those 2 if they were smart or at least lopez and favors...i have hope melo will come to the knicks but i wont get hyped up until he holds up a knicks jersey like everyone here said

Damn. That would be a Godfather offer right there. Any two of those players plus picks? Neither of our teams is topping that. It is too much but in the end it doesn't matter because they will get Melo for that deal. This might be coming down from Prokorov. Adding Melo would definitely expedite his business goals. I would keep Lopez and trade Favors and Harris if I had to pick.
Amar’e: Isiah Had Nothing to Do With Me Coming Here
20100706_stoudemire_560x375.jpg

All this week, for a future magazine story, we've been trailing andinterviewing Amar'e Stoudemire, the most talented Knick in more than adecade (at least), as he spent his first full week in New York City. Wespent time with him at the Knicks practice facility in Westchester, during a photo shoot at the Garden, at an unveiling of a billboard withhis likeness in Times Square. We talked to him several times, most ofwhich will be in the magazine story, but a brief tidbit from oneinterview, we felt, was too juicy to wait. It involves Isiah Thomas. Ofcourse it does.

As you may remember,Isiah Thomas and Jim Dolan claim that Thomas's primary utility isrecruitment; he's supposedly so respected and beloved by currentplayers that they'll follow him anywhere, even places (like New York)that he doesn't officially work. Donnie Walsh even cited Thomas in thepress conference welcoming Amar'e to town. And now Isiah supposedly has "inside info" that Carmelo Anthony is coming here.

So, about all that recruitment? We asked Amar'e what influence IsiahThomas had on his decision to come to New York. Here's how that sectionof the conversation went.

Much has been made of Isiah Thomas's influence on bringing in free agents. How much did you talk with him during this process?

Well, no one could talk to us until the free agency period began.

I mean after that. Between the day free agency started and the day that you signed, did you talk to Isiah Thomas?
No. I didn't talk to him once.

Not once? He didn't influence you to come here?

I never talked with him once.

Wait, so have you even met him?

A while ago, I think.

So, to be clear, you didn't talk to him at ALL during this negotiating process with the Knicks?
Nope.

So, to be clear: Isiah Thomas's supposed recruiting prowess is beingextolled even though the biggest free agent the Knicks have signed indecades never once talked to him and barely even knows him. And nowwe're supposed to believe Isiah has inside knowledge of CarmeloAnthony's actions. Makes sense. Totally does.

yeah you are probably right that would be the Godfather offer. But you have to consider the fact that teams will only trade for Melo if they know he will sign a deal with them. Teams will not give up all this #%#+ just to have him walk. That is the reason only a few teams are going after him. You could say the Knicks could put together a godfather offer better than NJs if we gave up Amare + Gallo + AR + Curry + picks that offer $%$!% on NJ's offfer, but we would never do it cause we would not have enough to contend and Melo wouldnt sign a deal.

That is why we are trying to pair Melo with Amare, that is why he mentioned us and Orlando, cause we are teams with an elite center and solid PG play (especially if we can get Paul as he hopes). Melo aint staying in NJ if they have to give up lopez and either Favors/Harris + picks. They will have nothing to build around. So yeah sure the Nets can offer a Godfather offer, but the Knicks can also... but Melo would never stay. The Knicks ALOT more than the Nets can prepare a VERY attractive offer for Melo with young studs like Gallo + AR + Chandler who all fill up the hole at the 3 left by trading Melo + Curry's contract and future picks... while also keeping a core good enough to be a contender and have Melo resign, people really gotta start considering that.

, NO WAY.

That would completely gut the Nets. Favors and Carmelo? Good GOD that's a gross thing to think about.

I think New Jersey, Houston, AND Orlando are all just blowing smoke. They'd be nice destinations, but the numbers don't really work, unless in the case of Houston they want to get 3-4 prospects in return for Carmelo.

I mentioned it in the off-season thread, but Danilo+Curry leaves them 4 million short, and I think the Nuggets would want one more prospect from yall to get proper value for Carmelo. There is NO rush on the side of Denver, so I don't think they'd hit the panic button and give you guys a steal. I don't think Buike/Turaif would be enough for them to bite, but AR? Yeah, I think they would bite on an offer of Danilo+Curry+AR, and maybe one other filler (Bill Walker or something like that). That would actually work out for the Knicks in the long-run if they wanted to make a shot at Chris Paul. They could sign a bunch of guys to one-year deals like they did this year. The main thing to me is Raymond Felton. I know the first two years of his deal are gauranteed, but what about that third? There's an option on it yes? I really doubt if it were a Player-option, that he would decline it.

If that all works out, the Knicks only sign guys to one-year deals, then in the summer of 2012, they could be ready to sign Chris Paul.

That's a lot of "if's" though.

The biggest obstacle is seeing if they can get Carmelo, and convincing him to try and suffer it out for a year or two, then try to get help in the summer of 2012.

suffering? Living in NYC, playing in MSG, having one of ur boys who's also an all-star on ur team, playing in an offense that melo would thrive in with his athleticism and shooting ability. Did u not see that Amare billboard, dude doesn't even have half of the stardom of melo and hasnt won a single game here yet and the city is showing him all this love, imagine how crazy it would be for melo.

I'm talking about on the court. Hype up Carmelo and Amare as much as you want, but the smart thing to do would be to sit back, endure 2 tough seasons being a low-@$% playoff seed, get salary off your books, and go after CP3, and fill out the roster like the Heat did.

If they start signing guys like Raymond Felton to deals like they did this year until Chris Paul hits free agency, there's no chance he ends up in NYK.

The only reason the Knicks have assets now is because they've been a burden to the team in the mid-2000s.

If the knicks sign melo next summer they'd be anywhere from a 2-5 seed, they wouldn't be up there with Miami and LA, but it definitely wouldn't be "suffering" either. and being in MSG in d'antonis offense is related to being on the court. and what do you mean by "deals like feltons"? Feltons deal has a team option on the year where the 2 best pgs in the league will be free agents. Donnie is a beast of a GM and I believe he's going to maintain cap flexibility until he puts his own big 3 together.

I wasn't saying the signing of Felton was bad, it definitely wasn't. But my point was, if they start signing mid-level guys to deals, it's going to start affecting their flexibility in the future. Walsh and co. can't be giving guys 2-3 year deals for the next couple years if they really want to get Chris Paul.

Suffering may have been a stretch, but there isn't no way New York stays in the hunt for a top playoff seed (1-4) AND stay in contention for Chris Paul in two years.

Miami, Boston, Chicago, Orlando.

They won't be topping any of those teams with JUST Carmelo, Amare, and Raymond Felton, especially if they're going to be keeping guys for a year, renting them out, in hopes of getting someone better in two years (Chris Paul). With the core they'd have if they traded for Carmelo, until they get extra help, they'd be in the same group as Milwaukee and Altanta, second-tier. If yall end up wtih Carmelo, things will be very thin for yall. Don't give me nothing about Andy Rautins, Bill Walker, or Wilson Chandler,

. They need depth, but that requires money, and that's something New York needs to watch CAREFULLY if they want to stay in the sweepstakes for Chris Paul.

Getting Amar'e is a great piece. You need that cornerstone guy now. Carmelo is that guy. If they get him, more credit to him, but the real job will be done if he can get Chris Paul. I'm not willing to call anyone a beast of a GM yet. If you're that bad for so long, you're eventually going to accumulate great pieces. Be bad for so long, you compile lots of good prospects (Danilo, AR [acquired from a 20/10 guy]), and you get very nice cap relief. It's the reward of being on the bottom for so long. If he can construct this team, stay in the middle of the pack of the East, then go all-out in 2012, THEN I'll say he's a beast.

He still has a lot to work to do, Amar'e isn't the end of the road, and quite frankly, neither is Carmelo.
