Report: Carmelo Could Force Trade To Knicks
Aug 17, 2010 4:30 PM EST

It has become clear that Carmelo Anthony is unlikely to sign a contract extension with the Nuggets, which has ignited rumors of possible trade destinations.

There are two ways that Anthony could force a trade in the near future. He could sign the three-year, $65 million extension Denver has offered him and demand a trade.

He could also refuse to sign, leaving the Nuggets to trade him or receive nothing when he becomes a free agent after this season.

"The persistent belief is New York is where he wants to end up," according to the New York Post.

Stoudemire's lawyers countered with the fact that Thomas was not a current employee, his recent offer of consultant being withdrawn after complaints of conflict of interest since he is also head coach of Florida International University.

"I can't believe that [Dolan] is trying to void my contract," said Stoudemire outside the NBA head offices. "I didn't mean no disrespect, the dude [Thomas] ain't even work here no more."

Sources close to Dolan claim that he will use the extra cap space made by the invalidated contract to lure Thomas back to the team by offering a max contract to be the team's president, general manager, head coach, advance scout, backup point guard, and facilities manager. NBA Commissioner is reviewing the details of this appeal and is scheduled to make a decision this Thursday.

Dolan could not be reached for comment. His voicemail message contained a forwarding number which belonged to Dale & Thomas Popcorn.

Pretty crazy.

Trade Machine Picasso gets 'Melo to NYC, Billups to Orl & guts/rebuilds Denver. You know you want to look. http://tinyurl.com/2wc9m67

PS on trade: NYK gives $3m + No. 1's in 2014/2018 to Den. Den saves $25m in '11. As '10 Raps taught us: trade your star when he wants out

Also, besides Amare, is there any player you guys wouldn't include in a Melo trade? Serious question. I'm in the Bulls thread and people are talking crazy to me.
Honestly anybody is up for grabs to get Melo. It's just some fans don't want to part with players like Gallo and AR. I highly doubt we'd give up both for Melo though.

@ that 4 team trade. No reason for the Knicks to entertain that and give up all that young talent.

I mean only giving up Gallo and a first round pick for Melo is way better than those speculated trades for CP3.
i was thinking the same, cuz of his relationship with Mike, and more than than Gallos pops and Mike are cool too...

But Gallo's contract is $3.3M for the 10-11 season.
Team Option of $4.1M for 11-12 season,
Qualifying offer of $5.5M for 12-13 season.

So if he gets traded and wateva team wants to pick up those options he wont have a chance to come back till the 2013-2014 season.. Around 25 yrs old
Damn I didn't even know ALL that.

I guess it's too much to hope for cuz if he went to Denver it'd be hope that they want to save money and not pick him up. I can only see them do that if Gallo plays terrible for them.

I don't like the fact that CP3 and Melo were rumored to want to come here....

Then it was Knicks or Orlando....

Now with Melo it's Knicks or Orlando...

Orlando already has Dwight, these dudes probably wanna play in the same state as Bron/Wade/Bosh while still competing vs each other..

We already know how things pan out when players want to play here...

edit - good thing we have security in Amare now, unlike before the whole Bron thing..

I know we're all excited about Gallo as a player but I don't think his ceiling is comparable to where Melo is.  Melo and Durant are the two best scorers in the entire league, we have to give up a player like Gallo if we have the chance to land a player of Melo's caliber.
