Reward System At Heart Of Miami's Winning Streak
Dec 13, 2010 5:05 PM EST

A simple reward system has contributed to Miami's current eight-game winning streak.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra set parameters that reward his superstars with offensive freedom when they excel on the defensive end.

If Dwyane Wade grabs a defensive rebound, he has the green light to do whatever he wants offensively. If LeBron James makes a defensive stop, he controls his own game on the other end of the court.

"Our job is to defend and then we get rewarded with what we want to do on offense," James said.

Wow. They can't be serious down in Miami.

Goodness. They sound like a bunch of kids. You need to be rewarded for your efforts on defense with offensive rewards? Seriously?

Yea.. but is ORL gonna risk that?

Is Chicago gonna trade Noah? Cuz Dengs contract is horrid.

Is Dallas, as hot of a team as they are gonna bother messing that up ?

nah, it was me that changed one name on it, because that name don't belong in this thread. It's Kelly Dwyer from Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie. Wouldn't expect this article from dude.

That is truly pathetic.  It's just like how every kid gets a trophy these days for participation.

That "reward" system is poorly worded to me.

It says what a lot of us said they needed to be doing when they weren't winning, pushing the ball. Except now they made it simpler, if Wade gets the rebound he runs the offense that possession... if Lebron makes the stop then he runs the offense. It's not that outrageous for two of the best players in the league to take control of the possession off a defensive stop.

and guess what? They're winning.
