**Official '11 NYK LOCKOUT thread*** lockout over

@ YEEUPP Denver doesn't have to trade him to us. They can easily take a deal from Orlando, Chicago, or Dallas out of spite/pride and tell Melo to EEFFF himself for demanding a trade to NY.

We were never getting Marc, he's restricted and they'd match anything. They wouldn't trade their starting center for years to come for more wing players.

i actually see it going that way also

One thing I'll say in Gallo's defense is that he'd fit better with Amar'e and Melo. With those two players, you need a spot up shooter to spread the floor. And as inconsistent he's been thus far, people still respect that outside touch.

Melo and Chandler are somewhat redundant on the offensive end. They do pretty much the same thing...just Melo does more and does it better.

Will doesn't compliment Melo and Amar'e's game the way Gallo as a spot up shooter (and one of the best) does...

IMO:lol

I think the odds of the Mavericks getting Melo is very low..They're not gonna put themselves in a Lebron-like situation...Say they do trade him to the Mavericks and he decides to stay..They become a top 3 team in the NBA (their defense is already on point so they can handle his crappy defense) and every time he plays the "Rebuilding" Nuggets, the Mavs will embarrass them the way the Heat did to the Cavs a few weeks back

Which means, most likely, IF the Knicks don't get Carmelo then he's gonna end up in Chicago, NJ or Orlando...If he ends up in NJ, I really don't see him staying there, especially with that corny owner and their slow paced offense...Plus, Avery is a defense first guy so that won't help him

IF he was to end up in Orlando, that would be tough for us because they would dominate the East along with Miami and Boston, driving Knick fans crazy..And it also could very well keep him in Orlando..And if he ends up in Chicago I don't see him staying because MJ has had a long period of animosity towards the Bulls franchise so since Melo is on Jordan Brand, he would be all up in his ear telling him how wack the Bulls front office is

I agree. Dont let your bias fool you guys.

As much as i hate Gallo for chucking so many damn threes, he'll pan out IMO.

always said this Chandler is better then him right now but Chandler is a finished product. Gallo will only get better. Hes getting 16 -18 points a game and it doesn't look like he cares in half the games.
However even though Chandler plays the same style can Gallo really play the 4? Im not sure. I think at the end of the day Gallo and maybe Fields will be gone.

The thing that annoys me about gallo is he doesnt take enough shots. He'd have games where he only takes like 5-6 shots and ends up with 18+. For him to pan out to the player we all want him to be he's gotta attempt atleast 13-15 shots a game. Plus if there is
anyone on this team who should take 10 3s a game it's him.

i would say yea

but you got alot of gallo supporters who see potential. But imo he was a waste of a pick that draft year which was filled with centers. it would have been nice if we would have picked up brook lopez or jennings that year

What more can Gallo become really? He's limited athletically so I don't really see the potential some of you see.

People have always said that Gallo is a less talented Dirk and that with time he could hit Dirk status offensively...If Gallo can develop a post up fade away like Dirk has, I don't see why he couldn't be the same player as Dirk...Maybe not dropping 28 a game like Dirk did in his prime but at least in the 20s

I just don't think he'll pan out to anything more than a 3 pt. shooter. I would love for him to turn into a Peja-type player for us but he won't get number of shots Peja got during his years with Sac if both Melo and Stat are there for him to reach his potential. I could see him getting pricey for us because he'll always have that potential but if the only thing we're gonna get out of him is shooting 3's we could get much cheaper/the same thing through free agency.

and what is Peja most remembered for? Hitting an air ball at a key moment against the Lakers. Not that it would be Gallo's future but I'm just saying

gallo doesnt only shoot but also gets to the line... its a tossup to trade him or chandler really... but is it safe to say we have to include one of those guys and fields for melo? of course randolph would go to another team for a 1st round pick and curry is included in any trade...

Apologies to our man Devine, but my Knickerbocker hatred runs deep.

It was well in place a while before, but as a 7-year-old, this game cemented it. And then the 1992, 1993 and 1994 (Hubert, curse word, Davis) playoffs danced upon that cement. I love the city, love it. I appreciate the intelligence of its fans, and I appreciate what they've been through. When a mate of mine bought in to the "buy two, get three" promo for the Free Darko prints a few months ago, I chose the Knicks poster, straightaway. No hesitation. No tears and no hearts breaking. No remorse.

But this has gone a little too far. Now Carmelo Anthony only wants a contract extension if the pen handed to him was once touched by James Dolan? Bugger all.

ESPN's Chris Sheridan used to work for the Associated Press, so you can be sure that he's not trying to break stories just to get on TV:
Carmelo Anthony has told the Denver Nuggets he will not sign the nearly $65 million contract extension he has been offered unless he is traded to the New York Knicks, a source told ESPN.com on Sunday.

The source, using the most definitive language possible, confirmed what has been widely speculated around the NBA over the past two months as Anthony has been at the center of trade talks involving numerous teams.

And while other franchises might be able to make better offers, Anthony will not agree to sign anywhere long-term unless he is dealt to New York, according to the source, who has been privy to private discussions between Anthony, his representatives and the Nuggets organization.

Bummer, Denver. You kind of have to start over.

Then again ... it's Carmelo Anthony.
http://
(This is the part where you try to remember the time in your life where you said to yourself, "damn, ‘Melo's taking over this game.'")

This isn't a shot at Carmelo. It's just that, with a sometimes-working Internet connection, League Pass, a nationally televised (if you get NBA TV) game on every night, and all sorts of exposure just a click away, we've come to realize the difference between stars and absolute and utter superstars. And Anthony, clutch and smooth though he may be, just isn't on the same level as a [The Lyin King], Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, or Dwyane Wade. Not in that order, Laker fans.

He's a fine scorer. Little else. He's managed some able defensive rebounding games, this season, but otherwise this is a pull-up jumper cat, and little else. You'd still want him on your team, especially in the last two minutes, but you needn't get too enthused.

And Knicks fans? As you no doubt know, watching this monster play for the last month and a half, Carmelo Anthony would be Amar'e Stoudemire's clear No. 2.

It's a nice No. 2 to have. But you should also step slow, in this regard. Carmelo's all-around play has only earned him about a 20 PER this season, and Wilson Chandler (in shape, in focus, all that stuff) is right behind him with an 18 PER. That is to say, Knicks, that you already have a near-Carmelo on board. So go easy.

So don't trade assets for him, right now. I don't think this winning run -- which was initially cute but, as a Bulls fan, eventually annoying and worrying -- will last, but that doesn't mean you drop everything to pull the guy in. Which means that, yeah, you kind of have to trade for Carmelo right now; but you can't toss in any assets of any lasting interest.

New York will have a small lick of cap space this summer, assuming that there is an NBA summer under the usual NBA summer rules, so the team won't be signing Anthony outright anytime soon. But it can trade for him, anytime soon. The complication here, is that it has to do it within the strata that it is working in right now.

It has to deal while operating as one of the league's hottest teams, with one of the league's freest offenses, with the finest metropolitan area in the world in its back pocket. It has to trade Eddy Curry's contract, and little else. No rotation player, no picks, no mercy on a Denver Nuggets team gone wrong. The issue is that the Nuggets take in the same sort of payroll savings letting Anthony expire this June as they do letting, say, Eddy Curry expire this June. There is absolutely no reason to trade Carmelo Anthony for expiring contracts, and it will cost them over a million bucks (if the Nuggies make the playoffs with Anthony) if they do start over midseason.

New York can't be mindful of that, even though everyone knows Anthony will take a contract extension in several markets save NYC, because we all love money. New York has to stick to a plan that doesn't give any rotation players up, even if it means losing Anthony as he heads to New Jersey in a trade.

Because anything else -- expecting Anthony to be a Pau Gasol -- will be wrong in le thinking and terrible in le execution. Pau Gasol passes, rebounds, screens, and (since May of 2009) defends. Carmelo, love the guy, scores by shooting a lot. If Kobe Bryant wished for a No. 2 in his own image, it came in Pau Gasol. Carmelo Anthony, and this is not a good thing, is a lesser Amar'e Stoudemire. Scores, sometimes rebounds, and that's it. New York is winning games, in December, but Anthony is not the cat to put this team over the top.

In the meantime, New York, love this. Some of my finer memories, as a Bulls fan (they actually won championships, if I'm allowed to smugly remind) came in 2004-05, when a team out of nowhere just decided that it was going to win a lot. Procuring Carmelo Anthony would be great for the Knicks, even if you don't need a crunch-time scorer; because that's what Amar'e does, brilliantly.

So sniff, reach out, or even trade for the guy. But don't give up anything you can use.

I'm not sure that we have the balls to rub $*## in Ujiri's face like this...but I ain't mad. If we've got it that good.
