That was exactly what Brooks did to Drew Brees

refs make a marginal call no one agrees with…people cry foul.

refs don't make the call next time…people cry foul.

lose, lose for these guys :lol

its not even that though. Like i said earlier, it's about them being consistent.
If you threw a flag on Brooks/Brees... you BETTER throw the flag on that Ryan hit.
blatant smack to the face and no call? okay. :lol

Different crew, different judgement.

But yeah that was a facemask at least.

for sure, man. but it's just a part of the game. happens ALL the time now. PI, hits on QBs, FG procedures ( :| )

:lol it sucks, but unfortunately until they review penalties (which i hope they never do, actually), it'll always be there.

Son...run it in to the end zone or toss it away :lol that would frustrate the hell outta me as a Falcons fan.

I mean it could always be worse. Don't even talk about refereeing inconsistency if you aren't an NBA fan

Wow at that no call. Pretty certain if the 49ers and saints meet in January that Brees will be on the receiving end of some cheap shot dirty hits and I hope that's the case.

Make those 15 yards worth it is all ill say.

Yo is it just me or did they let 11 seconds run off the clock by not stopping it after that Tony Gonzalez catch, when he clearly went out of bounds????

Mad weird.

Stay classy.

Blame Goodell for wussifying the league. No ones trying to get caught up like the saints did by making this mindset obvious but defensive coordinators are going to be trying to hit the qb hard after what's been going on lately to prove a point and to rattle him.

Getting hit on your blindside at full speed by a nfl linebacker is supposed to hurt.

Its not an even level playing field no matter how you cut it. Until it is again the NFL shouldn't glorify teams like the steel curtain steelers, 85 bears, buddy Ryan's eagles, 2000 ravens. NFL films shouldn't glorify these guys as "warriors" if they were to play the same smashmouth hard hitting defense today they would get fined, penalized, and suspended.

Defenses all around the league should make their hits on the qb count until the rules are more even leveled.

No, no they won't...  Because they don't want to get penalties and hurt their teams, so they will try and not hit the QB too hard.

I know you're trying to go on a super-tough rant right now, but none of what you said really makes sense.

If you hit the qb hard they get rattled. If you keep hitting them it affects how they play. If there going to call ticky tack calls on defenses then they'll make it count. You hit the qb and take him out the game, most the time you win.

Why are these past teams glorified if their smashmouth style of defense wouldn't be allowed today?

What incentive is there to be a defensive oriented team if their going to baby the quarterback like that?

Is football a physical contact sport or not?

This has nothing to do with the game at hand but I just saw the Vikings demoted Freeman to third string. This is how bad he's become. They're paying him $3 million dollars to sit the bench in a season going nowhere.

You're saying that if you are a DC you're telling your team "We want to prove a point to Goodell, so every time we hit this QB we want to hit him as hard as possible even if its illegal."

If I'm the opposing coach I'm laughing at you because every time you reach my QB we gain 15 yards in penalties.  I'm telling my team "Just wrap him up."  No coach is going to lose himself games to try and prove some point to Roger Goodell.

Past teams are glorified because people weren't aware of the risks of helmet to helmet hits, spine injuries, concussions back then.  You want glory you should pull up videos of these guys today, they're not looking so tough anymore.

I personally don't like the way that Quarterbacks are singled out and protected, but the whole "wussification" rant is just stupid to me.  Eliminating helmet to helmet and many of the changes are good things, it's too bad it doesn't make you feel as tough watching it, but football is still a violent and physical game and I certainly enjoy it.

Like guys are really out here claiming that if they can't see someone lead with his head or play with a concussion the game isn't fun for them anymore.
