You can't really let Gleyber walk just to re-sign Soto.
Obviously, if the choice was one or the other you sign Soto.
But creating a hole that they can't fix while re-signing a guy is not how the Dodgers do things.
And yes, Yankees should do everything the way that the Dodgers do it.
Look at what the Dodgers did from 2023-2024
C - Will Smith - Will Smith
1B - Freddie Freeman - Freddie Freeman
2B - Miguel Vargas - Gavin Lux (Lux was injured in 2023)
3B - Max Muncy - Max Muncy
SS - Miguel Rojas - Miguel Rojas
LF - David Peralta - Teoscar Hernandez
CF - James Outman - Andy Pages
RF - Mookie Betts - Mookie Betts
DH - JD Martinez - Shoehei Ohtani
(Vargas traded for Kopech)
(Peralta left in FA)
(Outman got injured)
Basically if they let someone go, they replaced them with someone else who was better.
Yankees equivalent
C - Austin Wells - Austin Wells
1B - Anthony Rizzo - ??????
2B - Gleyber Torres - Gleyber Torres
3B - Jazz Chisholm - Jazz Chisholm
SS - Anthony Volpe - Anthony Volpe
LF - Alex Verdugo - ?????
CF- Aaron Judge - Aaron Judge
RF - Juan Soto - Juan Soto
DH - Giancarlo Stanton - Giancarlo Stanton
Replace 1B & LF or CF if one of Judge / Soto goes to LF. If you want to let Gleyber walk, you need 1/3 of your lineup to be replaced, and if they sign Soto and let Gleyber walk, guaranteed they won't go into FA pool for a Gleyber upgrade
I'm still trading some guys (Martian excluded) for Vladdy. That's the type of move that the Dodgers went with.
