NEW YORK METS 2010 SEASON POST: Collins named New Manager

Offensive woes on our end....

And 17 hits allowed?!?!

The squad showed fight although the Marlins tried handing us that game on a silver platter with their relievers not being able to throw strikes. Would have been an awesome game to steal, but I'm just happy the lineup really made Florida work and didn't give up 5 runs down. Don't know if you can really say "good game" after a loss, but it was.

Time to take the series tonight though.

I hope Neise has a good season, he deserved to make the team this spring.

Last season our AAA team (Buffalo) was pretty much just veteran players with most of the talent in AA, this season:

Notables:

49Kiko Calero

48Pat Misch

39Bobby Parnell

29Tobi Stoner

40Raul Valdes

15Josh Thole

20Ike Davis

8Fernando Martinez

35Chris Carter

Should have a good season this year.

This team is basically a bunch of retreads. Omar's specialty.

It's brutal to be a fan of theirs.

Only the Mets.

Marlins starters just out pitched our starters, despite Neise pitching well today (he looks good so far).

We lack balance in the lineup without Reyes and Beltran....at least Jose comes back on Sat.

Ike went 3-3 with 2 doubles tonight.

Tough game to watch, yall couldn't really get too much started all night.

Pitching wasn't nearly as bad, bats just weren't there.

I was one of thirty people in the building last night and it was a treat seeing a homegrown product like Johnny Shniese throw a solid six innings.

- Pelfrey is pitching well despite him getting squeezed all of the 2nd inning (should've been 1-2-3), and then the alignment having David way off the line was o_O.

- Ike with another homerun for tonight's AAA game.

- That hook by Mock was

good game out there despite tough conditions. the wright double shoulda been gone... Barrajas with 2 dingers. Excellent outing by pelfrey. all good to see.

reyes is back tomorrow and it looks like a win is in the plans for tonight, im enjoying this mlb extra innings free preivew because i can watch met games from the comfort of my southern california home.

francouer just hit a homer, 4 home runs in 1 game at citi field, it seems like the team is getting somewhat used to playing at citi field now.

oh yeah met fans, check some of the local marshalls and tj maxx's in the city. the discontinued white home pinstripe authentic jerseys have been popping up at random marhsalls and aj wrights lately. my cousin picked me up a reyes authentic he got for $16.99 from marshalls a few days back.

Frenchy's looking real good so far. Jacobs looks lost. Cora made a couple of nice plays at 2nd...too bad he and Castillo can't swing the bat to save their lives. I'm fine with our outfield til Beltran gets back, I just wish we could get something out of the right side of the infield. It's pretty bad right now.

I'm encouraged by Pelfrey's start overall, a couple of his walks were right after he barehanded that ball but he looked really solid. Niese was good enough and Maine...he can improve. We'll just have to see what Perez gives us tomorrow.

Super excited to see Jose back.

Just arrived home from Mets game. I regret that I didn't bring a digital camera with me. It was fun. I am very happy for Jeff Francoeur. I know it's too early to say, but I believe New York is a perfect place for him. It seems he really enjoys playing baseball in New York. Rod Barajas hit a home run like it's nothing new for him. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Reyes play tomorrow.

I like what I saw from Pelfrey. I know he can fix his problem about walks.

Frenchy is a player and he's going to do very well here since he isn't the focus of the offense or the media's attention. Pelfrey will pitch well when he's not being relied on heavily. If Beltran comes back and does very well I think we'll see Fernando Martinez packaged in a deal to bring in a starter. Beltran getting off to a terrible start would really complicate things, so I hope for the benefit of this team he'll be ready to return to form.

I can't wait to see what Ike Davis is capable of in the major leagues, and with that said, I really want to see Meija go down to the minors and work on his secondary stuff and become a front end starter instead of being buried in middle relief as he is now. Bring Bobby Parnell up and let him blow people away with his fastball in the 6th and 7th innings, because that's what you're going to get out of Meija at this point.

If we're out of it by July I really hope Omar or whoever the General Manager is takes initiative and does what it takes to move Luis Castillo and give Ruben Tejada the opportunity to play every day at 2nd. While I don't think Tejada is an answer long term, it would be for his benefit to get some experience at the big league level. I don't see him as the kind of talent that is worth keeping in the minors and hoping he takes his game to the next level. He'll be a career .260 hitter, might as well bring him in and move that terrible salary/stigma that Castillo is.

All we need from becoming a perennial fall contender is another starter and reliever. We bring in those two pitchers and we'll be fine. Mix in an established veteran with Santana, Shniese, Big Pelf, and either Perez or Maine and we'll have a pretty solid ball club that will get the job done until Meija is ready to make a true impact in the big leagues.

I'm coming down from a night of drinking by the way, so forgive me if I rambled.

Nice to see Frenchy back on track after his lack of effort the other night in the outfield. And, Rod Barajas going deep twice.

Yes, it's the Nats. But yes, it's also a win.

Ollie P on the mound today, gonna be tough on the eyes.

- Anyone miss Schneider?

- Pelf looked aggressive and I likes that new split.

- Johnny....I doubt the Mets will make any trades for a starter that would involve Fernando, this will be a season where you may see some young guys called up mid season (this is a gap stop year imo that will involve just the development of the younger players). You only trade for an impact starter if you're still in it by the deadline, if not leave things as is and bring up Ike if he stays hot.

- Tejada plays SS naturally that doesn't really mean you can play 2nd (plus the guy is still very young).

- On a side note I was used to seeing Mejia with braces last season.

- Reyes is back, I feel more at ease.

This will be the lineup in a few weeks:

Reyes
Castillo (people hate slappy I know)
Beltran
Bay
Wright (5th where he belongs)
Murphy (if Ike tears the cover for a month consistently I don't see how they won't bring him up)
Francoeur
Barajas

No on Schneider. Unless we're in the hunt in late July, which I doubt though I'd love, I don't see any major trades and I doubt it'd include Martinez. Most trades during the season seem to be for rentals when a team is making a playoff push and it'd be stupid to let any of these young prospects go that seem like they might actually have a big league future.

Mez, that lineup with a healthy Beltran is pretty damn solid. If Frenchy can do anything close to his 2006 numbers and the rest play like they should, we're good. It's all about pitching though, I'd love it if Ollie made me eat my words but I've got no faith in dude.

Anyone else get a HUGE smile on their face seeing Jose sprint onto the field right there?

Nationals may a worse announcing crew than the Marlins....all they do is bash everything about the opponents/stadium/fans, etc (Marlins announcers do it sometimes).

Dude just called Wright an embarrassment because of yesterday, and now they were openly clapping when Franc hit into the double play and yelled YES! Then they complain about the strike call Ollie got calling it garbage after Lannon just missed an outside pitch. Now Frenchy, Matthews and Blanco are not major leaguers (coming from a Nats announcer with a team of scrubs, I find that funny).

They just called Wright an embarrassment again.
