Yet the Eastern Conference was the home of better defensive teams in terms of opponent FG%. THAT matters more than the actually success of the teams per conference.

Wade being slightly better than Kobe right now doesn't bring Jordan anywhere near this conversation.  In the bigger picture, of course Kobe has had the better career and is closer to Jordan on an overall scale but as of right now people are just saying Wade is the better player not saying he's had a better career.

Notice my constant references to the present tense.

I don't think so.
I will repeat this again because people seem to be morphing arguments. Nobody is saying Wade's career achievements are on par with Kobe, but right now as an individual talent, you can make the case for either player. I think folks are having a hard to putting aside Kobe's career accomplishments while making the comparison between the two players.

No, because Wade isn't higher on the all time list than Kobe is, no one is saying that. We're saying he's a better player currently.

Look at DC's first post on this page... we're talking about right now. Of course Wade and Kobe are both better than Jordan right now, MJ is old and fat.

All time? IMO neither one of them is that close to Jordan.

I am not saying Wade is better right now, I am saying that the argument for Wade being better right now can and should be made. Kobe isn't clearly better than Wade right now. One can argue for either side.

Also, I think Kobe is close to Jordan. Closer than people are willing to admit. For some reason people treat Jordan as God and to say that anyone is close is almost like saying God doesn't exist. Kobe is close, very close IMO.

It is the truth. There are so many reasons why people will never "disrespect" Jordan by saying anyone is close to him.

Inflated childhood values: You know how we tend to keep things we grew up with close to our heart and force our minds to believe anything of today just "isn't as good as it used to be."

People Just Not liking Kobe: Obvious

Shoe Allegiance: We know how important #23's were in our culture. I feel this also causes people to inflate his worth.

I know someone will come in here assuming (not reading) that I am saying Jordan wasn't as great as folks speak of. I am not saying that. So stop.

I am simply saying the gap between Kobe and Mike is more narrow than people are willing to ADMIT. I believe many folks feel that way but it isn't a popular opinion so they won't say it out loud, risking being called an idiot.

If there was a way to simply break down the GAME only of the two players, I think people would be in for a big surprise.

But a huge part of MJ's lore is his shoes/marketing that really changed the way athletes could be marketed.  He and Bo Jackson in fact, not coincidentally, both Nike creations.

But in terms of shooting, footwork, skill set, offensive creativity, it's closer then people believe.

But in terms of career, MJ has clearly had the more "legendary" career.  6 for 6, dealing with the Pistons, and then the Knicks beating on him, the final shot, the multitude of clutch moments/performances, all of that adds up to MJ being way over what Kobe has done.  But if Kobe does more work the next 2-3 years, he's again going to get closer then people realize.

I believe KObe's footwork is more advanced than Jordan. Also in terms of advanced ball handling moves, it isn't close. Kobe wins. I also believe Kobe is more skilled. His ability to use both hands anywhere within 15 feet, ability to convert shots with high difficulty ratings (one can argue that this is even a skill, but I think it is). I think Kobe's game is more advanced than Jordan's was.

Jordan was more efficient of course and his team won more. Those two things stand out for Jordan.

Attitude wise and the will to kill at all costs, WASH.

I don't think Kobe will EVER be widely regarded as being better than Jordan. Even if K runs off 3 rings in a row. I don't see people finding it in their hearts to admit Kobe is the man.
