Jesus Mary and Joesph all these damn stats I think people forget to actually watch the games...

This is the go-to response.

Kelly Dwyer watches more game film than you. His opinion thus matters more than you. He picks Wade over Kobe.

Your turn.

I love when people dismiss stats that they don't understand. Also when they assume people don't watch games if they use stats.

Well no #$%$ we're gonna dismiss them because we don't understand what the hell they mean. How are we gonna comment on something we don't understand? What are the percentages for? How much of a percentage towards the team? How many attempts to how many times they succeed? The #+*%?

as dumb as he is, he's kind of right.

the media always used to pick against michael and the bulls. (well atleast during the last three peat)

i have like 2-3 or magazines from 1997 and 1998 and some of the stuff in there is ridiculous.

in one magazine the charlotte hornets were picked to win it all in '97
laugh.gif

i think sports writers just want to create a buzz or have somethin to write about,so they pick against the favorites.

another example of this is this espn the magazine article from 2001 i recently read, that said jeramine o'neal was better than shaq.

What are you talking about? It is well-documented that the media protected MJ. Of course there were detractors. There will always be a Skip Bayless on the loose. On the overall, MJ is and was one of the most beloved athletes in modern history. How can this be an argument? The quote was "nobody loved jordan until he retired". Are you serious?

go back and read what i said

i said hes KIND of right.

the main arugement in this thread is that no matter what kobe does (wins consecutive rings) he gets no respect (sportswriters ranking dwade ahead of him)

and what noble kane said about jordan has some truth to it.

sports writers were doin the same thing to him when he was playing.

picking against him even though he had won all kinda stuff the season before

thats why i posted the thing about the hornets getting picked to win in 97 after the bulls had just won 72 games and the championship

and the shaq and jermaine oneal thing

my point was that a lot of sports writers like to pick against the favorite just to get some attention

you want another example? well goin into the 1998 finals, the bulls were the underdogs.

looking back at it you might disagree, but at the time the media was portraying them as that

but dont get it twisted, MJ >> Kobe

I said OBSCURE stats. Stop throwing numbers at me and not explaining it. I don't mind throwing out stats if you would at least back it up with something else. I've already said there isn't a huge gap between Kobe and Wade right now, but I do think Kobe is still better, but what the !+@* is OWS?

Offensive win shares... damn ECU doesn't teach research skills huh. Here's another spoonful: OWS + DWS (defensive win shares)= WS!!! It's crazy, it's mindblowing, it's superb: advanced statistics for a sport and fans living in the past.

An NBA box score is a terrible measure of a game.

There was an entire MIT conference dedicated to sports analytics. Watch this video, playboy.

You need anymore spoonfuls, let me know.

Advanced stats are better than points per game, rebounds per game, etc., which are outdated and misleading.

TRB% is the percentage of available rebounds a player gets while he's on the floor. AST% is the percentage of the team's assists that a player assisted while he was on the floor. You get the idea for STL% and BLK%. TOV% = number of turnovers per 100 possessions. USG% is the percentage of possessions a player uses while he's on the floor. PER... just ask CP about that one; it's his favorite stat.

I will repeat this again because people seem to be morphing arguments. Nobody is saying Wade's career achievements are on par with Kobe, but right now as an individual talent, you can make the case for either player. I think folks are having a hard to putting aside Kobe's career accomplishments while making the comparison between the two players.

How is Kobe not number 1? Wade couldn't even get out the first round with out Shaq. And OJ Mayo should of been number 10
