my bad.

celiac disease has been on the rise (allergy to gluten) so a lot of restaurants and food companies have began taking gluten out of their products

i guess people assume that since gluten makes some people react negatively that it is a bad nutrient in whole grain foods, even though gluten is just a protein

I swear in my area and local food spots people are advertising gluten free and customers are begging for it. It's like the new "low carb" I swear.

So you eat nothing but organic meats?

It was a quote from Step Brothers, he wildin. :lol

I need some tips on how to eat healthy without breaking my budget.

it's soooo expensive to eat healthy, and so cheap to eat those fast food joints.

i want to lose 20 pounds, and i've been running and excercising but i also know that it's also diet.

I NEED help with the food/diet part....
Not true.

What I do is go to a local Latino based market in my area to stock up on produce. Produce here is going to be much cheaper (and usually fresher) than the mainstream chains. Stock up.

Dry bags of beans

Buy stuff ON SALE.

Every week there is some part of the chicken on sale man.

It really isn't as expensive as people make it out to be. I wouldn't even call it expensive at all.

It bothers me that people spread this.

YES, if you are shopping at Whole Foods and Trader Joes for EVERYTHING, yea it is expensive.

Maybe just cut meat consumption down to like 20 percent, but not fully son... You homophobic or what???

Gave up red meat for Lent, and I'm thinking of eating red meat for a steak once in a while, or when I have an in-n-out burger.

I don't eat it that much anyway.

for those who want to gain on a budget

eat tuna its cheap. regular size tuna can is 2 servings costs about $0.90 x 7 days a week = $6.30. Add a loaf of wheat bread $4. For under $10 you have lunch/snack for a week.

Greek yogurt is the new healthy product, you can get this for under $1 as well. $7 a week for another snack. i go with the zoi brand

protein bars i know everybody wants to get the most protein when they want to gain, but most protein bars do not taste all that great. my advice to you is find one that you like and just buy a weeks worth. or as you should already know you need more protein on days you work out so if you want to be even cheaper about it only have one on work out days. a weeks worth will be $7. i personally like the balance cookie bars. it doesn't have the most protein but it does taste good.

cereal isn't just for breakfast it can be a snack. i used to eat chips all the time instead i snack on kashi go-lean cereal it has 13g of protein. sometimes i even mix it in with my greek yogurt

eggs- they have a lot of protein but also high cholesterol. If you want to watch your cholesterol just take out the yokes, egg whites are better for you anyway. you can get 4 dozen eggs for $7. that could last you about 2 weeks.

well thats all i can think of now. any questions feel free to inbox me

Gay slander is unacceptable.

Either way, there is a difference between red meat, and just meats. It's about cutting down crappy processed meats and eating poultry, deer, fish, ect.

Dude clearly hasn't read any part of the thread.

I've always liked this video because he points out that the produce section is where your life is. 80% of your diet should be produce. 20% could probably be whatever you want and I think you'll live a fine life.

His name is Rico Connor and I just found he passed away December last year from adrenal exhaustion, depression, anxiety etc according to his brother. He was a host for Spearmint Rhino in Las Vegas. Dude did his share of drugs, booze and even though he was devoted to health and fitness, he did take a lot of weird supplements. I think his demons just caught up with him in the end. His brother said he became emaciated in the end and his organs shut down. Sad. Search Youtube for more of his videos.

liked the video but i dislike some parts:

-dismissing dairy as a whole just because of pasteurization. pasteurization is the process of heating up the milk to destroy bacteria in it. yes the conditions in farms are horrendous and dirty but the milk that they produce is clean to drink. milk provides the calcium we need for strong bone health and also has a lot of protein in it

-dismissing grains, because its "man made." carbohydrates and whole grains are essential to our diet because the brain and the central nervous system NEED glucose to function. athletes must eat carbs to perform high intensity activities. WHOLE grains provide fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals which are all very useful for our body.

Video was informative, I've been drinking these tropicana juices :{

I have a big stock of tuna and salmon in water that I eat throughout my day.

I'm very picky about fruits :lol

Only eat apples, mangos, strawberries, and grapes (frozen is a plus). Hate everything else.

I've never been big on Tuna but may need to revisit it.

I just don't know how to use it properly and am generally turned off by the taste/texture of it. Seems like one of those things ill just never enjoy.

^ Yea man for the most part there is no reason you should be drinking bottled juices.

If you want something sweet make a smoothie with real fruits in there.

1. Beef - Think about how large scale factory farms work (where the vast majority of the meat in stores is produced). The farmer wants to get the cow as fat as possible, as quickly as possible. The cows will stand around (I'll spare you the details on what they stand around in) chomping on pesticide and fertilizer laced grain to accomplish this along with getting jacked up on Barry Bonds-like hormones. The grain is very unnatural for their digestive systems ultimately resulting in sickness. This will lead to large doses of antibiotics to keep them from getting too sick. All of these chemicals tend to store in fat cells, and will then store in our fat cells as we consume the food. Antibiotics, hormones, fertilizer, pesticides..I'll think I'll go organic on this one. If you are getting grass-fed meat (you should be), chances are extremely high it will be organic too.

so yea buy organic and grass fed beef only guys

same. i love to eat fish, but tuna just isnt one of them...

I've never even thought to do that with canned salmon. My mother used to make salmon pattys out of in and fry them in the pan and they were DAMN good. I need to look into something like that. Salmon burgers are wonderful.

Hell come to think of it Salmon has to be my favorite fish overall. I'm not too sure how it ranks on the "healthy fish" list though.

salmon is my favorite fish. it is one of the fatty fish that are high in DHA/EPA(omega3) so it is very healthy

Straight from a can, water based with low sodium it's as healthy as tuna with omega 3s. Frying it sounds good. Maybe make something similar to a crab cake?
