Mike D'Antoni is out as head coach of the Knicks.

A source tells Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated that D'Antoni didn't step down and that it was a mutual decision.

Mike Woodson will take over as interim coach of the Knicks, according to a source.

Phil Jackson has long been mentioned as a potential replacement.

Reports this week indicated that Carmelo Anthony's frustration with D'Antoni's system came to a head. D'Antoni's fastpaced, pick-and-roll style offense never meshed well with Anthony, who often operates near the elbow.

Sources close to the Knicks say the team needs to make a coaching change to replace Mike D'Antoni.

Stephen A. Smith said on ESPN that he would be surprised if D'Antoni isn't replaced within the next few days.

Phil Jackson has been frequently mentioned as a successor, but Jerry Sloan could also be a candidate.

Sources say Sloan would be interested in coaching the Knicks. Several teams pursued Sloan this past summer.
Source: Anthony Tells Friend He Wants Trade
Carmelo Anthony has told a confidant that he prefers a trade from the Knicks before the deadline, according to a source.

Anthony reportedly believes Mike D'Antoni and Glen Grunwald do not trust him. He is surprised that his opinion hasn't been sought more on personnel moves.

“The organization makes believe his opinions don’t matter,’’ the source said.

A source said Anthony and D’Antoni spoke in an attempt to reconcile their differences and made progress. Anthony will not make a formal trade request.

Anthony's agent Leon Rose refutes the report to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.

"Total nonsense," Rose tells Daily News. "It's laughable."

During Wednesday morning's shootaround, Anthony denied wanting to be traded.

"I don't know where that came from," said Anthony.
Sources: D'Antoni Has Lost Respect Of Knicks' Locker Room
Mike D'Antoni has lost the locker room of the Knicks, according to several sources.

"The players like Mike as a person," one source said. "They think he's a good guy. But he doesn't have the respect of the team anymore."

D'Antoni is in the final season of his deal with the Knicks and the team is expected to seek a deal with Phil Jackson this offseason.

Players are complaining about playing time and are confused about the offensive and defensive schemes.

Carmelo Anthony is hurting the Knicks offense because of spacing issues in the halfcourt, according to sources.

Good riddance. Bum.

Regardless, I'm wont be shocked if we dont make the playoffs. Woodson is interim coach, i say we look at Sloan and McMillan in the offseason.

Let's see what happens now. Woodson is the interim guy now, so we're gonna keep switching on defense. Woodson's offense was mainly Joe Johnson isos....he's got a capable PG to help run the offense so let's see what he does with it.
