The Lakers have given Robert Upshaw some offseason off-court goals - personal matters - today's signing suggests Upshaw has followed suit.

Now that he's earned it and proven himself, it's gonna be huge to have a legit rim protector in the game at all times between hibbert/upshaw. That had to be the biggest flaw of the team last season. It's hard to gain any ground when you're constantly giving up open looks at the rack. This will really open up the game for the rest of the team allowing guys to be aggressive on the perimeter and making their jobs easier.

Good shot blocking translates early. If he's ever going to be a threat on defense we'll know this year for sure. He projects to be a huge upgrade over what we had last year, even as a rookie. The Lakers were so bad protecting the rim he doesn't have to be mutombo, just average and it will be a noticeable improvement defensively.

Not getting my hopes up for Upshaw. All dude has proven so far is that he can somewhat behave off the court to get a multi year contract from the Lakers which is probably the league minimum or $1 million at the most for each year.

This year he's going to be that 14th to 15th roster spot and he's going to spend most of the time bouncing back & forth between the NBDL Defenders and Lakers when someone like Ryan Kelly is injured.

Heck his summer league wasn't at all nothing to impressive.

Lakers gave Upshaw a multi year deal since they know this is Baby Joker's last year on the team.

Also he went un drafted in the draft because of his off the court character issues, he has a medical history with a heart condition similar to Ronny Turiaf. On the court the dude is a project offensively.

The way things are shaping up I really wish they showed training camp on Time Warner. It sounds like its gonna be a very competitive training camp.
