**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

So since players are inconsistent, just change their role and lineup every week?

Have most of the same pieces as last year when climbed out of a hole using: AD, Bron, Vando, AR, DLo

Like you said, signed guys who were discarded from other teams like Cam, now he’s starting and playing a big role? Prince is the only one who has a consistent role and everyone else is musical chairs on any given night
Tell me what player and role has changed weekly? (Or even this season for this matter… )

Vando has either been injured or rusty. Austin has probably been given a bigger responsibility with bench scorer but he’s not necessarily asked to do anything different than before. Cam was basically the only perimeter defender while Vando was out. Prince arguably the most consistent outside shooter.

So if we look at the trio of Rui, Wood or Hayes has any of them done anything to separate themselves from this group?

Every single rotation player other than Bron and AD roles have changed:
AR- was starting, now coming off bench running with different unit
Vando- was coming off bench playing 13 minutes, now starting playing nearly double
DLo- was starting, now coming off bench with different unit.
Rui- coming off bench until today, now starting

EVERY player has come off the bench and started and had their minutes drastically adjusted Week-to-week other than Lebron, AD, and Prince.

Has any team that has made at least the conference finals in the history of the NBA changed 3 starters the next year?

Every single rotation player other than Bron and AD roles have changed:
When a player enters a game does not equal their role on the team…

Ex. Vando’s role on this team is to defend opponents best perimeter player, bring energy, hustle, offense rebounds, etc. That role remains the same whenever he’s in the game.

Austin, DLo same thing…their role on this team is to provide scoring, outside shooting and playmaking. Playing off the bench especially in some non-Lebron lineups they may have a bigger responsibility but it’s still the same job.

Vandos role is the same, but minutes have doubled this week at someone else’s expense. AR and DLo are now playing with bench units, while they’re doing similar jobs, it’s not the same role (they play less with starters and are asked to carry more offensive load). Minutes have fluctuated greatly for everyone, regardless of starting or not.

I wonder why other coaches aren’t implementing the 4d underwater chess master HAM weekly lineup/minutes/rotation changes..?

For the 6th consecutive coach we blaming rotations for our troubles.

I'm sure the next one will figure it out.....
well this dumb *** did start 2 guys who could be left on an island offensively in that boston game and it led to boston having a 12-0 lead to start the game. we lost the game by 11 with bron having a very bad game.

guy insist on playing reaves and russell at the same time is mind boggling.

and an even bigger head scratcher is playing hayes over wood and giving wood like 5 straight dnp's due to it

First quarters have been down right awful all season long… coach changes the lineup, fans scream “don’t you see the lineup data you idiot, this lineup sucks!!” Give us back our old lineup, that also sucked but at least had our favorite players on the court.

Basically…

The problem with any trade is, what are you getting back, and what is your guy worth.

DLo - Has significantly more fit to the Lakers than most of the teams for the role he is asked to play. If you trade him, you either need to get a facilitator who can score back (which why make that trade of a PG for a PG), OR make a secondary trade to do so (which would open up holes elsewhere)
With his salary and value, go + or - $5mil and you're making your team worse with the crop of players who would be AVAILABLE for him. Or you're trading DLo, Rui and another role player for a significantly flawed player who is injury prone making $40+mil every year for the next 4 years, and probably doesn't move the needle, at least hasn't in 10 years.
This isn't to say he should be untouchable, but it is to say, any trade of him likely isn't one where you leave it going "Well all is well now" due to value + contract + role + Lakers needs.

AR has great value, mostly because he has a long term contract, and is making peanuts, and really productive compared to his salary. But because he's making peanuts, you have to stack multiple salary chunks to get what you would want for him (an all-star or better level player).

Rui is the happy medium. Decent value. Decent contract. Some logjam in his position. If you traded him, it'd sting, but might be the biggest contract to trade that you can exchange him for any other type of role, and not have to replace what you ask of him.

Then from there, outside of Bron & AD (who are untouchable), Vando (who can't be traded), DLo & AR (don't translate well to the trade market) everybody else should be available.

After being on the road practically all of December, they get to be home most of January. If they continue to trip up, changes will be made.

Changes are probably coming regardless.

This team made a WCF run after the Russ mess and we wanted to run it back.

West got even better. Now that WCF run is nothing. Unless we get much better we might slide in the play in.

Another year. Another play-in game if we’re lucky

We have two Top 75 players and seem to be always fighting to make the playoffs. Pathetic

I think it always boils down to us not having real floor spacing shooters every damn season….we have guys who can get hot and hit shots

Others teams have legit shooters you can’t leave open

If I can go back to my point about facilitators.

Up on the vertical axis is more potential assists
Up on the horizontal axis is frequency of potential shots that are open shots.

The circles represent AR behind Maxey and Lavine and the other is DLo.

A DLo trade absolutely 100% requires another move for a facilitator.

"Save us Darvin Ham"

"Save us Lakers small forwards"

"Save us Lakers 3-point shooters," even though Rondo, KCP, Caruso, Green, Kuzma, Morris, and Bradley were nowhere close to being 50% three point shooters therefore based on deductive reasoning this team desperately needs 50% three point shooters in order to win a chip lol

"Save us AD. " We know you're all by yourself rebounding and defending that paint as opponents keep attacking the interior at will against the Charmin soft LoLaker defense

"Save us January home schedule" LOL

mediocre losing Mentality at its finest

Go get a legitimate big to help your fragile skinny PF, go get two 2-way guards so you can match up with BOS, DEN, MIL, MIN, and PHI and go win the gotdamn championship. Lakers have all the forwards they need in Bron, AD, Vando, Prince, and Wood. As a coach you gotta know how to utilize and maximize your talent.

The Laker guards are the weak link, cause they suffer on the defensive end. AR is good, but for the right player he could be expendable.

Trade the guards plus Rui, which is their only real good tradeable asset besides draft picks.

still dont think theres that big of a clear favorite to win it all in the nba.

a few minor trades and healthy squad and i think we got a very good chance like everyone else.

Facts.

If the right trade is made we will be fine.

But we gotta figure it out quick.

15th best team shoots 38% from Corner 3.
