**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

if Ham wants to win, the rotations are a piece of cake...

We all know the team and AD play better when Wood is on the floor with AD and Bron.

Q1 starters

DLo
Reaves
Bron
AD
Wood

Bron comes out halfway thru the first, Rui replaces Bron and plays the 3.

At the 3-4 min mark of the 1st, Vincent replaces DLo, Prince replaces Wood. Rui slides to the 4, AD slides to the 5.

Vincent/Reaves/Prince/Rui/AD

1-2 Minute mark, maybe Bron comes back in and replaces AR depending on game flow.

Q2 starts, Hayes replaces AD.

Bron
Vincent
Prince
Rui
Hayes

7 min left, replace Vincent with DLo, bring in AD for Hayes, Wood for Rui, Reaves for Bron

DLo/Reaves/Prince/AD/Wood.

4 min left, take Prince out, bring Bron in. If Prince is hot, take either DLo or Reaves out, whoever is cold.

Finish the 2nd quarter with Bron-AD-Wood frontcourt with whoever guard and or forward tandem is playing well. Lakers must maintain their length and size at all times otherwise expect to get outrebounded again and again in key possessions like they did tonight.

Wash rinse repeat in 2nd half.

Lakers use a 2-Big lineup the majority of the time while still allowing AD to play as the lone big in certain lineups.

First thing that has to happen is the players who are playing need to play better… beginning with the guards.

Outside of a few token minutes for Cam and Hayes it was an 8 man rotation. Probably too much Vincent, not enough Wood or Rui BUT w/ Austin struggling it was going to be either Bron or DLo as the lead ball handler

Regardless 45 threes is way too many for this roster. Find a way to get the ball inside and play more to your strengths

Wood > Prince in the starting and closing 5 if you ask me.
Starting lineup doesn’t really matter to me… except if the starting backcourt continues to struggle that’s a problem.

Prince, Wood, Hayes…hell you can start Rob Pelinka or the actor that married Jeanie Buss. If AR/Dlo can’t defend and are terrible on offense nothing else really matters. Here’s a better solution, start one and bench the other. Go Austin Prince Lebron AD and Wood… let DLo come off the bench and pair him with Max. Then you can figure out the rest

When the guards are playing like trash, just play them less and go bigger.. Gabe was useless in 30+ minutes. AR useless on both ends. Bron seems like he wants more PG duties and he’s been effective with the ball. Pick one guard to have secondary ball handling and put more productive guys: Rui, Wood were playing well and went away from them. Prince is solid, but 41+ minutes, sheesh

Edit- this would have been a great game for Max Christie, he would have had a lot of open looks (several of our guys did), and his energy/defense is good vs shooters (chasing around Huerter, monk, Murray etc.)

This team has no identity.

They try so hard to be a three point shooting team when they're not.

You got AD and Bron, two guys who can make a living scoring inside yet Ham having his team chuck 45 three pointers a game and is telling AD he wants him shooting 6 treys a game

The general public knows basketball strategy and have a better feel for the game than Darvin lol

I'd be 2-1 rn if I coached this team

Sac won the points in the paint tonight by double digits? Because the Lakers might just have the worst defensive backcourt in the league. They had NO CHANCE of keeping up with Fox, Monk, etc … I think Gabe at least tries on that end but he’s small and has average athleticism so there’s a ceiling on what he’s actually able to do.

Against the Suns, DLo was benched down the stretch. Tonight, Austin was benched… that to me is one of the biggest takeaways this season…and also why Gabe plays so much and why Cam has even been in the rotation at all. There is no reliable on ball defender. Vincent might have been the best option against Fox/Monk… if both are in the game the Lakers are screwed.

Tonight was an outlier with the 45 threes BUT look at this…

50/58 threes in the 1st two games have basically been wide the hell open. Teams as usual are packing the paint and daring them to shoot. I don’t think they need to come down and take pull up 3’s in transition and off the dribble hesi 3’s but if you’re being ignored on the perimeter and are left wide open you have to take and make those.

Yes true you gotta make open threes, but again.....it's simple basketball not rocket science.

If teams are packing the paint and leaving players open at the three point line, then take what the defense gives you - the mid range. Shoot 30 threes and 15 more 15-20 footers. Try practicing that for a change.

Problem is, Darvin's offense doesn't teach this. Ntm, this team initiates their offense playing the 5-out, with AD starting at the top of the key with a high PNR.

There's no variation, no variety in what they do offensively. Other teams already know what's coming.

With Sabonis out, Ham should've had AD posting up down low or pinch post on a lot of those 4th qtr and OT possessions to mix up the looks. Let everything start there and let AD cook, get to the line. Go from the inside-out, and take advantage of the size advantage with Sabonis out.

What do you think the Lakers the Bulls, the Celtics, the Spurs, the Mavs, the Bucks would've done in that situation.

Dump it down low or on the pinch post to Kareem, Kobe, Pau, Jordan, Bird/McHale, Duncan, Dirk, and Giannis and let em go to work.

But DHam don't got that kind of thinking.

So you're saying there's no savvy Playoff Rondo on D, no DFish, no Coop, no Caruso, not even a Farmar lol

Yup, Lakers need to swing a deal for Caruso

😂

So now we claim to know what offenses are “teaching” lmao

Doesn’t matter what the offense is, when you have a questionable decision maker like DLo running the offense it’s going to be a roller coaster ride that’s probably just going to result in him taking the shot.

And the wide open threes there is no other option but to start making them. Give up an open shot to dribble into a contested one? (Defense normally will have one foot in the paint)

Overall this was a winnable game if the guys who actually played shot better, and in overtime maybe try to get more than one shot attempt for your best player

You know who took the second most after Lebron though don’t ya?

LeBron had 67% of the team’s turnovers.
8 turnovers from one guy is pretty important when diagnosing why they lost a game. 4 turnovers for the rest of the team.

As well as 4 missed FTs out of 6. 24/28 for every one else.

Getting DLo and AR going equally is probably a decent start to long term solutions. DLo shooting wise, mainly from 3. And Austin for everything.
Austin has a 20.1 usage. DLo 20 even.

Through 3 games, their worst lineup is the starting 5. -20
Second worst is their second most run lineup when they replace DLo & Bron for Rui and Gabe -17

Best lineup is AR and TP replaced by Wood & Gabe. 3rd most run lineup. +19

Reaves, TP & AD are the 3 worst +/-
Wood, Bron & DLo are the only 3 with a +. Gabe is at an even 0.

The issue is and continues to be the same thing plaguing them since Bron touched down.

Not smallball, 3 guard lineups, 2 bigs, Action Jaxon & C.Wood.

Not really Ham either.
