**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

I never liked the phrase small ball, because it’s not about putting a bunch of small dudes on the floor. It should be called skill ball, because it’s mostly about playing guys who can switch on defense and dribble/pass/shoot on offense.

I saw the Kuz tweet and posted it, but I thought his specialist comment was more geared at players like Duncan Robinson or Patty Mills…dudes who can shoot but don’t do nuch of anything else out on the floor.
Yep, skilled 2-way players with length and size, basically the more all around players your team has, the more the team can compete with anybody.

But Size is the X-Factor imo. The more 2-way skilled Bigs a team has, advantage that team.

There’s just not that many of em in the league today that’s all
They'll be more and more coming. Guys like Mobley, Sabonis, Ayton and non-fat Zion are emerging, Timelord and Kuminga have shown signs of having tremendous value as impact bigs who are athletic, and this year's crop from the draft are ripe with bigs who can play.

I get your point man but…Sabonis is a cone on D, pretty sure Boston’s on/off numbers are better with Williams on the bench this series and Kuminga is a 6’7 wing.

Mobley is going to be really good though

Williams is ultra valuable, his on/off numbers notwithstanding. Lakers could sure use a guy like Timelord rn.

Kuminga, though only 6'7", is long and athletic, and can play power forward as well. He throws down lobs, runs the floor, and can alter/block shots as a weakside defender. To me he's a big in addition to a wing, which make him valuable cause he can switch on multiple players.

They are really gonna run back a team that went 33-49 that's a year older. One TMLE, five veteran minimum signings and maybe one second round pick. Insanity.

You can take all the quotes from Darvin Ham and they are literally Frank Vogel's quotes from 10 months ago.

I said I’d be willing to give up a pick just to get rid of Westbrook but most people want to keep them both. The first half of the season and potentially the entire season is shaping up to be a disaster unless AD and Bron figures out how to stay healthy.

Beggars can't be choosers.

If they wanna get rid of the cancer, and the other team says you gotta give up a first, you do it no hesitation unless you dumb enough to believe Westbrick gonna adjust his game, adapt to Bron and AD, learn to shoot, learn to move without the ball, and play defense like he was 24 yrs old all over again.

Pelinka has zero leverage when negotiating with teams about Westbrook.

Welp.

I mean look at whats been mentioned in rumors as far as possible trades:
Hayward/Oubre, Buddy/Brogdon, J Wall, etc…

Are they better options than RW? Yes
Do they move the needle and make the Lakers contenders? Nope

Unless there’s something else better in the works behind the scenes, which might be possible, this current window is cooked. I don’t really think they should give up any future compensation, taking on any of these terrible multi-year contracts (minus Wall of course) is already more than enough.

Eat this last season of Russ/Bron/AD ball and start over next summer…

“It’s not gonna make us an immediate contender” is a lazy take.

Did Boston think: well we can give up our crap plus a couple picks for white and theis but will that move the needle?

Well it sure did.

Do u think dubs said: well, we can sign and trade durant for D’Angelo Russell and then flip him for Wiggins who sucked in Minny. Should we do it? I mean it won’t make us a contender.

Well it sure did.

Thus:
Hield brogdan lebron and ad

Or

Hayward rozier lebron and ad all healthy is an ABSOLUTE contenders.

Better than the crap we have now. The dubs with 5 all star has everyone thinking unless you have 4 superstars together that you won’t win. That’s not the truth

Yawn

“Better than the crap we have now”

Brodgon who misses more games than AD, and Buddy the specialist will make the Lakers significantly better than missing the play in game.

So tell me what the ceiling is for a team composed of those 2, AD, Lebron, the young players from last year and 4-5 minimum guys?

Starting to sound like my plan makes the most sense

Trade lebron and AD, stock up picks and young talent. Let Westbrook expire sit him out this year. Get a head start on the post Lebron era

Not winning a chip with our best player being 38. AD too fragile and his value is going down by the minute. When Lebron is gone we’ll be stuck with 32-33 year old AD with little value. Best to trade them while they can get us a good return

Lebron is one old man injury waiting to happen

You want to make any of those trades for Russ straight up? Go ahead I’m on board with that.

But, there’s no need to add any incentives on top of that. Hey if I was Boston and White was the missing piece to winning a title this season, then sure throw in a first round pick…title tax.

But the Lakers aren’t close to that point. Honestly they’re closer to a rebuild than they are contention so why lose a year of draft capital because some parts of the fan base don’t like Russ so they want him gone by any and all costs.

Please

It’s not about a window

It’s about another year of toxicity….on the court, in the locker room, out in the press room, social media and in the stands.

Can you imagine HOW MUCH MORE bad press this team is going to receive if RW plays the same + a NEW HC

Last year’s media cycles will look endearing

Brand wise, it’s almost a suicide.

The potential for this coming season to be even WORSE than lasts is there…..take that how you will

It ain’t about winning

You're right. The compensation coming back must be able to move the needle if we are going to give up a first rounder but Buddy and Brogdon does imo as long as Pelinka is being wise with building out the rest of the roster.

Dame Lillard moves the needle for me as well and is the one EYE have in mind. I may also give up Westbrook and a pick for Kyrie plus a role player.
