**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Team would be fairly similar without Lou... Assuming they got a marginally decent wing player in return...

For all the huge 4th quarters, there's a few games, that he gets a lot of run where he's ball stopping and playing hero ball detrimental to the rest of the team.

Maybe it shaves off a win or two over the next 2 months, but it won't have a huge impact.
You're right. But maybe perhaps, that one or two wins that it shaves off could be the difference in keeping and losing the pick.

I'm sure getting rid of the leading scorer on the team will have more than a one or two win impact but even so that could be the difference between losing and keeping the pick.

They'll still win games..

The problem Lou creates is
1. Luke ends up running these ridiculous lineups to close the 3rd and almost the entire 4th... After a while, on most nights, the bench starts to really stink it up toward the ends of their rotations. This requires Luke to no change his rotations to ones that are actually beneficial to everyone
2. Lou is a ball stopper, the bench frequently has an issue moving the ball, even happened tonight before Lou went nuclear. Bad offensive possession after bad offensive possession because they can't move the ball. Then Lou woke up. But it's clear that everyone else is unclear on what they should be doing.
3. Guys just watch Lou when he's on the court. Same thing as Kobe last year, but more efficient.

Last part.. Yeah, it could be the difference.

But Lou does as much harm as good.... If you replaced Lou with a semi competent backup PG, team would be pretty similar (W/L wise)

Who's picking up the scoring slack if Lou is not in there? Nick as well? They aren't going to win games if those dudes aren't there.

Lol watch, if Lou will gets traded the bench will be better... all that ***** do is shoot. Nights like this he looks good but nights where he not on fire he's useless. He ruins the flow of offense too. Dude just pulls up from anywhere

yeah I can't wait til Lou is gone but in the mean time he helps the tank more often than not.

I didn't understand playing Larry down the stretch over Randle. Boogie was killing Larry and they had to double every time. Randle is stronger than Larry, give him a shot.

No Lou means more minutes for DLo & Clarkson... Also more minutes for Nick Young, which is a better fit with DLo

Also means more minutes where DLo & Ingram have the ball in their hand initiating the offense. Which is when the team does better.

Offense runs more smoothly, provides us with better shots, and flow of offense.. Not to mention defense would likely get better.

Lou also plays more and scores more (marginally) when we lose. Shoots marginally worse % wise.

In the end of it, all depends who we get back... If we got Jodie Meeks & our 2nds back for Lou (should be healthy by end of off week).... And Thomas Robinson for a okay backup PG... We wouldn't all of a sudden be the Nets

Yes magic name dropping Kobe was just so laker fans can get a chubby :D that boy don't wanna teach no damn young players

Lou is mismatched on this team he needs to go to a playoff team and let JC/Larry get more touches

Best description for Lou I've heard/read was he is an invasive species. Any time he's on the court he just alters the entire ecosystem to best suit himself. :lol

That was Darius and the laker film room guy podcast right?

Heard that and laughed my *** off.

D’Angelo Russell, Los Angeles Lakers

14.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 4.8 bpg, 39% FG, 76% FT, 34% 3PT (38 Games)

Strengths:

Dribble Hand Off Scoring – Russell has a crafty style of play, and this is never more apparent than with his DHO play. Russell is excellent out of dribble handoffs and ranks in the 87th percentile in the league, averaging 1.14 points per possession. Russell does a great job coming off of the DHO shoulder to shoulder. When his defender chases him over the DHO, Russell squares himself up to the rim, getting his defender on his back and allowing him to turn the corner to the rim. When the defender goes under the DHO, Russell is also effective, stopping behind his teammate for a pull-up. He is shooting 46 percent from the field in these situations.

One-on-one Scoring – Another strength for Russell is with his isolation play. He ranks in the 83rd percentile in the league, averaging 1.039 points per possession, by shooting 41 percent from the field. Out of right side ISOs, Russell is deadly, ranking in the 98th percentile, averaging 1.5 points per possession. From the top of the key, he ranks in the 77th percentile in scoring efficiency. Russell can drive it both ways but has a tendency to want to get to his left, or strong hand, on drives. On drives, Russell ranks in the 98th percentile on ISO drives, ranking as the 5th most efficient player in the league. His herky-jerky stop and go style allows him to constantly keep his defender off balance.

(Defense) – Guarding Pick and Roll Ball Handler – Russell is very good when defending the ball handler out of pick and roll situations. He ranks in the 69th percentile in the league, holding the offense to an average of .77 points per possession. By slithering through screens, Russell uses his length to contest pull-up jump shooters. When guards turn the corner to the basket, Russell does a good job catching back up to ball handler, making it a difficult finish at the rim. Russell ranks in the 96th percentile in the league in defensive efficiency when his offender goes over the screen and drives it to the rim.

Weaknesses:

Maturity/leadership – There is no way of accurately quantifying the effect or lack thereof that Russell’s leadership has on his team. However, the 20-year-old comprised his trust with his teammates and organization last season by leaking teammate Nick Young’s online scandal. Luke Walton told Laker Nation’s Ryan Ward of Russell: “He’s growing up a little bit, maturing a little bit. We all know he’s got talent, it’s about being able to use that talent and play this position at a high level. He’s showing good signs of that.” Russell has both Walton and Magic Johnson to lean on as mentors in LA now. Johnson has stepped up recently as someone for the Lakers guard to lean for guidance. Despite his latest uptick in maturity, Russell still has a long way to go in securing absolute trust and leadership in the Lakers locker room.

Transition Scoring – Russell is shooting just 38 percent from the field in transition. He especially struggles as the ball handler on the break when compared to his peers. Russell ranks in the 12th percentile in the league, averaging just .83 points per possession. As the ball handler in transition, Russell sometimes tries to do too much. He seems to overcompensate for his average athleticism by over dribbling and looking to make the home run play as opposed to the correct play. As the ball handler in transition, 25 percent of the time Russell has turned the ball over. Improving his decision making and poise on the break will help to improve his overall efficiency.

Pick and Roll Decision Making – Russell ranks in the 24th percentile in the league in P&R efficiency. As the passer of P&Rs, Russell has not proven to be effective this season, ranking in the 29th percentile in the league when hitting the roll man, the 27th percentile when hitting the cutter, and the 49th percentile when hitting the spot up jump shooter. When refusing to come off of the pick, Russell has been the least efficient, where he ranks in the 8th percentile in the league averaging .67 points per possession.

I think one of the issues with P&R Decision Making is we don't really have quality Roll Men on the P&R.. Zu is the best of the bunch, and they've only had a few games together... Nance isn't bad either.... But they've barely played together. The longest lineup he's played with Nance is 20 minutes in the season.

He also needs to learn how to set himself on his shot off the P&R.... Too much lower body movement and body lean that throws off his shot... Also be willing to get deeper into the paint, and let the defense collapse for the roll man or weak side cutter (No athleticism necessary to get an extra step or two in the paint toward the hoop)

One positive thing I'll say about D-lo that I saw in the Wizards game the other night.

He's improved a lot defensively. He's gone from horrible, to somewhat servicible on that end. He did a pretty good job on John Wall in the 2nd qtr or so.

D-lo still a clown though. Where my homie whip been at?

Someone give me some advanced analytics to make me feel better about Dlo because what I'm seeing the past few weeks has been atrocious

Getting benched in the 4th quarter in a game where the other team has a career backup PG ? amazing

sometimes its not all about the numbers.  u know heart, desire, workethic used to play a big role on evaluating a person.  DLO just doesn't have the makeup for a starting PG with the Lakers.  Maybe on a different team, with HIS OWN agenda.

Think it's amusing how fans complain about minutes. It's not like Luke doesn't care about Dlo's development. He's obviously showcasing Lou for a potential trade. Dlo will get all his minutes after Lou is traded, idk why people are up in arms. Another positive is playing Lou over Dlo is beneficial to the tank as well. I wouldn't sweat it at all.

I'm tired of Magic doing every interview in the world. Just have Jeanie fire Jim and move on with it. Playing this type of **** out in the media makes your franchise look like an even bigger joke than it already is.

A different tune was definitely being sung last year, but I'll digress.
