**LA LAKERS THREAD** Sitting on 17! 2023-2024 offseason begins

Lakers: Matthews signed a one-year deal for $3.6 million with the defending champs, taking over the 3-and-D wing role vacated by the trade of Danny Green. BORD$ had Matthews valued at $4.2 million, so this is solid business by L.A.

Using the $3.6 million biannual exception on Matthews will hard-cap the Lakers, who presumably will also use their full mid-level exception. That, in turn, implies that they may not be able to break the back to keep Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The Lakers have at least six open roster spots left to fill (presuming Anthony Davis returns), and $29.5 million below the hard cap line. The full MLE would leave $20 million for the other five spots; four minimum contracts would leave $13 million for Caldwell-Pope. That might very well be enough, but it’s a tight dance.

The other significance of this news, potentially, is that it removes one of the three players Milwaukee could have used in a sign-and-trade to put together a deal similarly to the failed Bogdan Bogdanovic swap, which they would likely need to generate enough matching salary. The Bucks still potentially can make that move with Sterling Brown, Pat Connaughton or Robin Lopez.

Why would a young player after a solid year take a team friendly deal?

We have no shot.

Just bring back KCP, Dwight, Sign Ibaka & and call it an offseason!

Get a ring while you’re young and prove your worth and then get teams to backup the Brinks trucks and pay you.

Instead of getting paid on a sh*tty team and wasting your prime years and then ring chasing like GP, Mailman, and T-Mac all did.
