Kanye West: King of the Sunken Place, "Watch the Throne"

Yes indeed. This is NIKETALK, y’all should know this

Or we forgot about the history of sneakers on this message board? :smh:

No, I remember it. There has been some members on this site in multiple threads who have pushed against the idea that urban communities and people of color are the originators of sneaker culture. It's just interesting depending on what thread you're in what story will be told.

Who do they claim are the orginators?

It’s really always been Baltimore area leading the sneaker culture, but I won’t derail  🤐🤫.

But Y’all a cool #2, that is a more well known and a LOUD city that takes credit. I get it

But yeah. Most of the urban fashion gets popping from street culture in the mid Atlantic. Partially I-95 corridor. DC-Baltimore-NYC @Chopper

Kinda wild to see where DTLR is now. And also wild to see Foams, Nike Boots, AF1, New Balance…go from a niche, local shoe…to Everywhere and popular

The is Glenn Greenwald on Tucker level nasty

Wavy Taibbi back at it again :{

My thing is, if you live in city A how what was going on in city B to say who made what poppin when? Especially, before the internet. Im mainly talking about the Foamposites. Dudes act like they were just some random shoe, worn by and unknown player for an obscure basketball team in Florida. I got family from DC. They’re gonna ask me what I know about Foams…..as Im wearing a Penny jersey.

“He got game”, Tim Duncan and watching Miles Simon and Mike Bibby debut then in the National championship in 97 is what got me into Foams. I was already a sneakerhead child in South Florida. Use to watch football and basketball games just to look at the shoes.

On the other hand, you have peers who who aren’t into kicks at all.

In Florida, we are known for gold chains, gold teeth, old school cars with candy paint and 20s or 30s. Everyone region has sub cultures.

1. You can TRAVEL.

2. Nike themselves tell you :lol. It’s very easy for a company in sales, to pinpoint a geographic region buying a product.

And not only that, it is evident. Like clearly evident when you go to these certain places and certain times. I traveled and lived. I moved from Baltimore to Atlanta at 17. Two Major cities. My College was literally across the street from WALTERS. The most famous, major and historical sneaker store, right in downtown atlanta.

When I asked the owner there about the royal blue foamposites in 2007/2008, the dude straight up told me “there is not a demand for that here.” They didn’t even ship em there then. He immediately presumed I was from “up there” Fast forward 3-4 years later, everywhere.

They have articles and videos telling you. Nike guys themselves wrote about each of the shoes I mentioned, and the regions impact. Same with New Balance etc.

It ain’t hard man :lol.

It’s really this simple.

It’s really this simple.

It’s simple. Let Nike not keep NY stockpiled with AF1s or DC not stockpiled with Foams, Goadomes, Baltoros or any Nike boots, there would have been RIOTS in the 90s or 2000s.

Footlocker had to keep Soulja Reebok’s on deck in south Florida and New Orleans in the 90s and 2000s.

I know dudes who who would buy four pair of Soulja’s at a time during the 2 for $89 days at footlocker:lol:

Def A First Time For Everything.

Dont Think I've Ever Heard This Take Before

I know they sold a lot in the area, but what me is when people start trying to see “DC made Foams hot”…its like whoa…chill. Everyone liked them when they dropped. Foams would been Foams without DC. Most of us….or our parents….was trying to spend $200 on some sneakers.

Def A First Time For Everything.

But it’s true. It’s a reason why Nike has been making has been making Baltimore exclusives AF1 for years and years. Even during the time period where, Baltimore was “off air forces”…around ‘05-‘12

Particularly west Baltimore. I’m from East, but they always been ahead of the curve.

Look into the history of DTLR

I’ve posted about it in various threads for years and years. Those who are true sneakerheads, and have their ear to the ground somewhat, know there is truth to this.

Here is an article from 2008, from one of the designers of Nike Boots

I work in marketing. I’ve seen **** legit go from the street throwaways, to popular amongst kids in the ghetto, to corporate, to worldwide.

It’s actually kinda crazy

That area DID, tho. It wasn’t going to be popular everywhere. It wasn’t. There was an area that was up on em, and stuck with em way past 97. When a lot of people happens to forget about them actually. That’s simply the facts.

You have to really understand the dynamics over here.

Hustlers and people in the street or adjacent, was DEF, trying to spend $200 on sneakers. Especially in DMV-Baltimore. That trickles out to impressionable teens, rappers and everybody “cool” etc.

Shoot, dudes up the Jail saw NB as a flex, just because of the price point. When I tell you, $200-$300 sweatsuits from a local urban wear store was the norm at that point…and they made their colorways to specially match whatever color of sneaker. That type of **** is unique to that region.

These are the facts

I remember moving to San Diego and me and my boys would ride our bikes to the BX just look at the Foams. None of is knew anything about the DMV. A dude in Slidell, Louisiana was not buying no Foams because DC ******. No! Now you CAN say dudes bought Reebok Workouts because of New Orleans dudes but, Im sorry, Gogo didn’t hit world like Cash Money. Yall giving yourself a little too much. Ill give yall the Nike boots. I seen that happen, but I can’t agree with “DC put everyone on foams”. As a person NOT from DC, I can tell you the District of Columbia had nothing to do with people like the foams. That like saying Texas put everyone on to pickup trucks.

We aren’t even having. The same conversation.

Have a good day man.

What he’s saying is the manufacturer’s themselves know where certain markets have a foothold on particular products.

It’s a fact that Texans buy the most trucks. Nike knew DC bought the most foamposite based shoes. It’s a fact.

It’s like when people say “such and such” music doesn’t get played in certain areas.

Lil Boosie probably would’ve never had his tour stop in NYC even at his peak, because that wasn’t his target demographic. He would’ve took a loss.

Literally certain baseball hats sell out in California due to gang culture. Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds, or any teams with red and blue as their predominate color are readily available in LA due to the demand

Companies know where their bread is buttered.

Moncler, Canada Goose’s, and Helly Hansen could never be popular in Florida. Those brands would lose money down here.

Ford, Chevy, etc will keep a surplus of dually trucks, f-150s and 250s in Texas. Like I said, Nike knew to keep DC/BAL and NYC stockpiled with foamposites and AF1s. It was their main market.

It’s not about you and your partners in Louisiana not being concerned about Foamposites or paying those $200… they weren’t concerned about getting the attention of Louisiana when they had two particular areas who were already loyal consumers
