Guardians of the Galaxy (Film) - 8/1/14 - Starring Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Benic

Was this mentioned before that Marvel offices are tearing down images of Fantastic Four on their walls and might phase out the comic book series because it just gives FOX free promotion?

LINK

After watching GotG and the roll Disney/Marvel Studios is having, I am convinced that if Disney/Marvel put out West Coast Avengers, it would be better FOX's FF :lol

I find this to be unlikely.

Comics don't promote the movies, those people are likely already sold, and if they aren't you probably have bigger problems.

Even if they could. Disney/Marvel does not want to do a crossover, boost sales for the competition, who could ruin their franchise, and reflect poorly on the MCU as a result.

I find it unlikely as well. Promote to who? the 1% of viewers that actually read the comic. Comics get changed to look more like the movie so they can boost sales for the comic if anything. The comic book mystique had scales for a while. Can't find it on google tho. Only shows the movie mystique

They might use it to see how much of their fanbase is interested in it. Wouldnt surprise me if they can tell how popular a movie will be off that. Which is why I think they tried to push Inhumans but failed for unrelated reasons

Fox already said they are going with how the XMen was formed with the original members after Apocalypse.

I mean really, if you say that there are no more stories to tell then you've never read XMen books, hell you probably never seen the saturday morning cartoon because they can pull at least 10-15 stories from that alone. :lol

Especially after they pretty much reset the whole X-Movie-Verse means they can start all over. Do the Phoenix Saga right, have Sinister f' around with Cyclops and Jean, go with Astonishing Xmen once the team is extablished, etc... and sprinkles solo Wolverine movies along with XForce, Deadpool and F4 every few years.

C'mon RFX you're talking to the "marvel homer" :lol honestly I don't think the stories they can do will translate well on film. Many of these xmen films (minus The Wolverine) lack action. How many action scenes were in DoFP? Also look how bishop got the snub in DoFP...I mention this because the xmen have a lot of wacky stories under their belt that would leave casual audiences turned off to the franchise. Their stories run deep and I don't feel like the casual movie audience will care about the mojoverse or the Shi'ar Empire. How do they pull of Madelyne Pryor? I mean it's possible but seeing Fox's track record with fan favorites like your beloved Baraka-clops, silver samurai the robot :{ how they butchered their retelling of the Dark Phoenix saga and I'm waiting for them to mess up gambit AGAIN and see what they're interpretation of Apocalypse is like....Fox will soon run out of steam with the xmen. It's inevitable.

Why would they mess up Gambit?

I can totally see Channing Tatum making Gambit a fan favorite

But DoFP is their highest grossing XMen film yet and you liked it more than ASM2 (which you thought was a masterpiece) so you saying it lacked action so no one would watch it or that it is too story-centric so it won't sell was proven wrong.

Again, DoFP reset all of that including the most recent Silver Samurai BOT, Dark Phoenix, etc... You can no longer hold those against them until they f' up again because at this point, it is safe to assume they know what they did wrong and everything is looking right at the moment and how they are approaching their new projects.

I mean did you see the concept/trial Deadpool vid? That was proposed to Fox so there are ways to make it the correct way, the overwhelming reaction to that vid alone will get Fox's execs tingling about the possibility more than ever.

You act like Mojo and Shi'ars the only way to go from here on out but they are bringing Apocalypse and opening up a whole new possibilities there, I'd at least wait to see how that goes before putting more doubts in them. Hell everyone thought DoFP was going to suck and be a clusterf*ck including myself and we were all proven wrong and they delivered the best XMen film to date.

There are also a lot of stories that do not deal with space or somewhere out of this world (you mention Shi'ar and Mojo), Astonishing Xmen is a great story to tell and involves no space or out of Earth stories. Messiah Complex, Second Coming or just go with Giant Size XMen just shows a great Claremont run with the team that could easily be translated to film.

Though you are a Marvel homer, you are also Fox hater so that is a wash. :lol Even after they proved you wrong with DoFP and proved you wrong in a big way but stomping all over your beloved ASM2.

I think XMen has more story potential than avengers. I mean after the third one, what are they going to do? Civil war? WWH? Stuff with Sentry?
i do t know if is call them failures. They both cost 100mill to make and both made 300million. So while they arent in the upper tiers they're respectable box offices.

yeah but that 100 million doesn't account for the marketing which for a block buster is like 100-200 million.

But that 300m they made also doesn't count the money they made from merchandising and bluray sales and tv screenings and product sponsors/placements.

Keep in mind that another Riddick film has been greenlit due to good blueray/dvd sales and in this day and age or people just downloading or streaming through Netflix, that is saying a lot.

people are homers for film studios now? :rolleyes

There are definitely feel some studios could do no wrong, it's evident just from this thread alone from a few pages back.

I mean I read somewhere here that IM3 sucking was perfectly fine because it was a "transition" film, "it did what it was suppose to do". :lol

"Served it's purpose" they said :lol

You people are strange.

These aren't sports teams, at the end of the day you like the movie or you don't.

I gave DoFP the title over ASM2 because I was so impressed that they were able to reset the continuity all in one film. We all thought "Days of" was gonna be utter garbage and Bryan Singer had always been a PoS to me but he proved me wrong with that film and I was impressed that it was a cohesive story and Singer managed to come back to a franchise he hadn't been a part of for a while and make it his own again with a new cast of actors and his OG cast. Astonishing, And Giant-Sized have great stories but are also wolverine included xmen teams. How many more Xmen stories on screen do you want to see led by wolverine? Your Avy answered that for you. And he's been getting snubbed by Fox. Like you mentioned though, Fox is in a good space after "Days of" success but Fox is like what 2 for 7 with the xmen films. I'll reserve my final say after apocalypse. The horsemen will be watered down though

I was refereeing the "bias against fox studios" comment.

also I don't even get someone being biased against a comic company, Marvel and DC have a pretty different roster of characters, different tones, now more than ever in the comics.

If you don't like a character or a style of character, thats just a taste issue,

bias implies some irrational hatred.

I apologize that I misunderstood you. It's more so that people approve or disapprove of certain studios handling of beloved characters. I can admit that I am extremely biased when it comes to Marvel and all their characters. For me it's what I grew up on, and I had cousins who introduced me into comics and told me to never read DC comics as a joke almost like you had to pick sides. As I got older and more into comics I realized that their is a tongue-in cheek side you pick when it came to comics (if you were into comics that is) many of my close friends are DC fanboys and we get into pseudo arguments over why one comic book company is better than the other. It's all in the spirit of comic book nerd-ness though. It's not serious at all :lol ....but it's fun messing with rfx45 rfx45 he loves his DC heroes :lol

Oh there are irrational hatred and irrational love, trust me.

Reading all these threads and reading it from page one to end really shows you how people feel.

Hell I can I say can be said to have irrational thinking too, not going to deny that but I always try to stay neutral and mostly positive. I don't really hate anything to it's full extent though.

Gunn on the Collectors collection.

"There is the Slither creatures from my movie Slither behind the Collector; those guys are pretty obvious," said Gunn when asked to give a guide to The Collector's museum. "You have Adam Warlock's cocoon. You have all sorts of characters from other Marvel movies; a Dark Elf back there, who's played by Doug Jones, one of our stunt guys." While the Collector's Museum is left in ruins in Guardians thanks to the Orb, Gunn hints how the character may have more items in the 2017 sequel. "I will say that is probably not the Collector's only museum," he said. "I think he probably has other spaces in which he keeps his incredibly vast selection. That's just his Knowhere wing [in the movie]."

And who the dancing Groot was...

View media item 1114626
"Litte spoiler for the audience, that tree dancing is me," the director revealed. "I'm not motion-captured, but I'm motion-referenced and that is 100% me dancing... Honestly, that [scene] was supposed to be either mid-credits or end-credits, but when we showed it to the test audience, they loved it so much! We were like 'We don't want people walking out and missing this this,' so we put it right there after the 'Guardians of the Galaxy Will Return' thing."

Gunn told the Hollywood reporter

"...what touches me the most is that the film I told the folks at Marvel I wanted to make two years ago is the film that you're seeing in theaters today - it's that so many of you seem to be directly EXPERIENCING the film I INTENDED.”

Nah James Gunn. THANK YOU! Aint no one touching Guardians on a visual level.

yeah but that 100 million doesn't account for the marketing which for a block buster is like 100-200 million.

It is never 200M IDK how X-Men managed to get a marketing budget more than its film budget. :{

Agreed!

I wonder how much Vin Diesle made for voicing him?
