FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

I had Toro once and I have to admit I was not prepared for how it melts in the mouth. Took me a few minutes to process and decide I liked it.

Unagi/Eel is usually cooked and is like butter, so I can see a non sushi eater enjoying that. I love it.
I get THAT part but I would expect her to visualize the actual animal and ALSO factor that into the equation. So that is why I wouldn't expect EEL to be her #1 option.

They just opened a Mastro’s in sf
Wanted to try it out
It was ok
May take a few months for them to get on point
Steaks were just kinda bland
Even my porterhouse has no flavor
The fat wasn’t even good

Suppose to have been a wedge salad
Never had one that was already cut up like that
Was kind and trash

Would preferred the creamed spinach or the sautéed mushrooms
Wasn’t bad
But again steak was so trash killed my mood

I always get heated when I spend $200+ in a restaurant for trash food. I always tell myself I should've went to the supermarket instead and fill up my fridge for an entire week.

Incredibly proud to announce that a friend of mine, Omar's-Kitchen, is opening his own restaurant.

Preview of the design. There's still some last minute things he has to finish before it opens officially. I'll keep everyone posted on that. It's located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It's a stone throw away from Clinton Street Bakery.

*UPDATE*

Omar's Kitchen and Rum Bar has officially opened.

The address is 29A Clinton Street, New York, NY 10002

Open Everyday from 4PM - 2AM

And since this is NT, here are some pics of the food:

Not that I was about to drop $200+ on dinner last night, but I convinced my girl that I would cook if we stay in instead of going out for a burger.

Came down to San Diego to visit the girls family.
Her sister is vegan, and the start of a new year calls for an easy weeklong cleanse, so I decided to partake in the lifestyle while I’m here.
Surprisingly real good food, and so many options out here. I would consider going vegetarian/vegan more days a week if we had more options where I live.

We also hit up an all vegan food truck fair. Too dark to take pictures, and I forgot.

Do they reuse the banana? leaf? Kinda excessive to use it on every plate/bowl.

And is that the only dining area? Tall tables/chair, how are ppl with wheelchair gonna sit lol

Lamb and coco bread eh

Experiment 2 with sous vide brisket - was on clearance in my local supermarket yesterday for half price. Same as before rubbed it in salt and left it in the fridge overnight.
This time tried 140° for 9 hours (because I wanted to eat it today that’s all I had) then 20 minutes or so in a hot oven to brown it.
This time it has a pink centre and is still tasty - a little more chew than I wanted.

Served with gravy, green beans, home made mac and cheese and gravy.

Next time I think I’ll try the same temp but longer - probably 18 hoursish.
