F1 Official Thread - Grand Prix of Britain

Tough season, but a strong finish at the end. Lando best of the rest while Daniel made the 1-stopper work.
We talk about Daniel's struggles, but IMO, Lando doesn't get enough credit for dragging that McLaren in the points consistently... all those P7's and overachieving the capabilities of that car.

What was with Haas asking Mick to stop doing donuts at the end of the race?

It was almost like they wanted to kick him on his way out the door.

But now that I think about it Haas is so broke they're probably trying to skirt the rules and salvage parts from this years Tractor of a car for next years back marker :lol:

Pretty interesting that DR can easily fill in should Checo decide to go rogue. This will probably ensure that team orders will be carried out swimmingly next season.

Not sure if already posted but this was fun:

Year end thoughts:

Charles could be god tier but needs to be able be aware of his own race strategy. Team needs to improve but I feel like he lacks that thing that George has being mindful of the conditions.

Lando is god tier just needs a better car.

Sainz as expected picked it up during the second half but yeah, probably would never beat Charles.

Lewis is still a beast on race day, gonna be fun to see him in a better car next season.

George has the tools to beat Max, just not the car yet. Is he as good as Lando? Better than? 👀

Max is in Charizard form.

This video begs the question- would you rather have V10's back or competent and impartial race directors?

I guess we have completely different definitions of "God tier" :lol:

This is not "God Tier" and has nothing to do with strategy :

Just listen to his scream at the end. That's his fault and his alone.

This is not "God Tier" either and has nothing to do with strategy:

Oh and we can't forget Sharl parking Nikki Lauda's 1974 Ferrari in the wall at the Monaco historic GP. Sharl doesn't need for it to be an official Grand Prix to let everyone all the way down:

Blaming the entire Ferrari shortcoming on strategy is easy and I could see how someone might say that, but its not entirely accurate. How do you blame the team strategy when Sharl crashes out of the lead at Paul Ricard or spins while chasing Checo for P2 in Italy?

Sharl also needs to cut out this "friendship" with Max.

Max has the competitive edge on him because Sharl races him like thats his best friend. You cannot be friends with your biggest rival in the sport. It just doesn't work that way despite what the weirdo F1 Reddit community would like everyone to think. F1 is extremely cutthroat and Sharl needs to start acting like he understands that.

I think if Ferrari ends up bringing in Fred Vasseur we'll see Sharl's game step up to the next level as Fred is a huge fan of Sharl and they had success at Sauber together.

Lando needs a better car but again, there's certainly better, more accurate ways to describe his talent that don't necessarily dip into the "God Tier" hyperbole.

I'll leave the pokemon reference alone...lol

That crash was the result of front brake failure.

Despite me being a total McLaren fanboy, I def don't consider Lando as 'God tier'. He's had a very good season in a pretty poor car... he's made the most of his opportunities and maximized/overperformed the car, but I don't know how he'll perform under pressure. We've not seen getting chased down by Max or Lewis... to really be put under pressure. Like how George was being hunted down by Lewis in Brazil. He held his nerve and got the win in the same car. That was very impressive. Not saying Lando won't be able to do that, but we'll have to wait to see how he does in a contending car.

God Tier would've pitted for inters in Sochi though :lol:
Nah, I think using the Sochi race is unfair. A lot of the comments at the time didn't have all the info/details. Having watched the entire onboard with all the radio chatter, it revealed that McLaren didn't give him the correct rain info either. IIRC, Lewis wanted to stay out on his slicks too, and initially rejected Merc's call to box, but later, they told him that the rain was gonna intensify, which was why he eventually did box.

It's easy and entertaining to mock and make fun of Lando for his decision, but the thing is, when you're leading a race (and on the verge of winning it), it's an extremely difficult decision to box and give up that lead. Essentially, McLaren left the decision to him, without giving him all the rain info. The choice for Lewis in P2 was much easier (as the guy chasing) and also (IIRC) having a sizeable gap to the guy in P3. In a sense, Lewis had less to lose, so to speak.

We kept hearing Lando's "NO!" radio message... but there was a lot more to it. He later admitted that his communication with Will Joseph could have been better... but Lewis, with all his years of experience with Bono, also helped a lot. Obvs, I hope this painful experience will be beneficial down the road, not only for Lando, but for his engineers as well.

That crash was the result of front brake failure.

All of his errors were due to brake failure? lol

This is kinda my point with Sharl... there's always an excuse.

When the excuses stop and he produces, then maybe he advances into the elite tier that Lewis and Max are in.

MAYBE.

TBH- George is closer to that tier than Sharl right now just based on the fact that he doesn't succumb to unforced errors as frequently. If Merc gives him a proper car next season it'll be even more clear.

Charles is not elite yet. I say that as a Ferrari fan. If he were elite, this year’s championship wouldn’t have been this lopsided.

Dude needs to turn “heel” and actually be a foil to Max. It’s cool that they can be buddy-buddies at the end of every race, but Sharl NEEDS to be an a-hole when **** actually matters.

Can't wait to see how this unfolds, sounds like Vasseur is the only real candidate but nobody's really excited about him besides the Leclerc camp presumably.

Can't wait to see where Binotto lands either, especially since he's apparently got four teams including a top team approaching him. Gonna have that man in a white and teal button up come July 1st :lol:

Look, I’m with you on the Sharl crash montage. But he’s found that edge vs Max in quali and has the most poles this season. he’s not elite to you? :nerd: I also didn’t put all the blame on Ferrari strat, i specifically said he needs to know his own race and not blindly follow orders. None of his blunders escape me, guy. I see them. Which is why I said he “could be”. In addition to that, he’s got to keep his head right. Dude is asking if Max is behind him while Max is in P9 or somewhere in the back. Max is like Freddy or Jason to him it seems to me.

:lol: a lot of qualms with the words god tier eh? breathe folks. God tier means the highest level/elite. You really actually think Lando and Max ain’t elite? What is this ranking system then? George is definitely up there too.

I stand by what I said, Lando and Max are my top drivers this 2022 season. Hence, god tier*Audible gasp from the audience* dude actually typed hyperbole like I picked Ocon or something.

You’re right though, I’ll leave the Pokemon reference alone. I’ll just try some other ones for approval.

Max = Anakin
Lando = Empire Luke
Charles = kylo ren probably

Re: the Mattia firing, they’ll be in trouble still if they don’t workshop the entire team. Mechanics and engineers, ain’t no way Mattia is the only problem. That’s a problematic pit
