Quite the opposite. Son turned each down cuz he didn't want to be the guy that did a superhero movie given they were still having a bad name (as far as serious actors go) despite the OG Spider-Man's success cuz there were still X-Men trash around.
Then dude got disllusioned with the business and just wanted to be a regular guy again. So he moved back home (somewhere in middle America I think) and just watched paint dry or farmed.
When he tried to make a comeback it was mostly in B movies until he got a good gig with Penny Dreadful which was good and had a cult following. Then he did interviews talking about he'd totally be open to do any of those superhero movies, he just needs to get the call
Poor fool passed up A-list roles thinking he was Cruise or DiCaprio, then saw guys like Maguire, Garfield, and Bale get their careers on a higher level to make bank and basically tried to walk back his stance and change his tune too late.
