In return, we've learned Conan has agreed to sit on the bench until September. Translation -- he can't host another show until the fall.

In addition to the $32.5 mil, we've learned NBC is also paying severance to Conan's "Tonight Show" employees. In all, we're told NBC's payout is around $40 million.

But Conan probably won't see close to the $32.5 mil. Under the deal, any money Conan makes during the remaining contract period with NBC will offset the network's obligation. So, if Fox were to make a deal with Conan and pay him $25 mil during the NBC contract period, Conan would only score $7.5 mil from NBC.

One well-placed NBC source told us something surprising -- looks like NBC may keep its intellectual property rights. So Conan can't take his creations -- such as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and the Masturbating Bear -- to his next gig.

That would suck. Sure hed have the freedom to make other stuff but still, that sucks.
Can they really do that?
yes. and if they're smart they will.

google the term "works for hire"
Is stuff like "masturbating polar bear" and "in the year 3001" possible though?

Thatd be pretty funny.

Letterman last night was brilliant, everything he said was accurate and hilarious.

JRS, you could try to watch as many episodes online, that is until they take them down. I'd recommend checking out Conan's 10th Anniversary SpecialDVD, it's from 03/04 and has a great recap of some of his best stuff from the years.

Those videos with the stories from Rosie and Dude never looks sincere in anything and he is def a snake.

One of the more under-rated late night hosts. I hope he is Letterman's successor, very sincere and witty.

One of my fav clips (old):

Conan's staff asked Howard Stern to come on The Tonight Show later this week (for what will probably be Conan's last week), but Stern has said no. He says that if the show was in New York he'd do it, but he doesn't want to fly out to Los Angeles (I guess doing it via satellite would be kinda lame too). Rosie O'Donnell wanted to do the show too and even offered Stern a private jet for both of them to fly out to do the show, but Stern still said no.

Having Stern on The Tonight Show would be... interesting. He has hated Leno for years and would probably not hold back. Stern also says that he wouldn't hold back on Conan either. He'd ask him pointed questions to find out how he feels about the whole thing. But it's not to be (if NBC were to let Stern on in the first place, something Stern doubts). Maybe Stern can be the first guest on Conan's first show on another network.

the only reason is because 1. stern doesnt like to fly and 2. and if he does forces himself to fly he doesnt want to be rejected by NBC at thelobby

I was at the Conan rally on Monday. Waited in the rain for about 10 hours to get into the show (had standby tickets but didn't get actual tickets

) Itwas still a fun experience though. Ran through the rain with Conan, shook the man's hand, and got the "I'm Wet For Conan" badge.

The return of the legend.

Ed Helms was great there too

Personally I'd love to see Stern rip Leno apart on national tv, but most likely it would just be nasty. Stern needs the freedom of his own show and you puthim on the Tonight Show and it would be bad

It's been cool that Conan's mentioned the Haiti tragedy the past few episodes, definitely needed.

@ that shot at Leno. Leno brought out all the kids that were born during his show's tenure on his last show
laugh.gif
and now Conan brought out hamsters

Conan just wasting money
