Charlemagne Tha God speaking real on why NY rappers are not winning right now . . . this can also ap

never understood how "ny needs to be back" we ALWAYS got people in contemporary hiphop doing with they doing.

this argument only holds weight if you subsribe to da notion that "hiphop only matters in da clubs and on da radio"

once upon a time, all these dark moody mobb deep beats ALL played in clubs, so club music as a term is subjective itself.

NYC is cool, we dont have to dump our herritage...look at all those french tapes, people forgot da MAJORITY of his tapes is STRAIGHT NY
NY needs that sound, Just like when Heatmakerz provided Dipset with that sample sound back in the days that had ya head knocking was epic

Thats the only reason why people saying NY is on life support cause most of their artist went southpaw. All yall need is that sound.

Do you guys think the premature deaths of Pun, Big L and Biggie had much to do with the downfall of NY rap? Just curious to hear opinions

Nope because NY still lived after that and was the top spot till like 04 when the South took over COMPLETELY.

Jay-Z didn't exist?

And 50 Cent sold like 10 milli in 2005

Said that earlier, the "sound" is mainly production

naw, it was more to da with da fact that when multiple crews were on top (g-unit, dipset, ruff ryders, rocafella, etc) little to no collabs was

being had.

...but you can't say that there IS no downfall and then...

...you know what? Forget it.

Actually, there is no "they" anymore. Heatmakerz is effectively just RSonist these days, and he's been trying his hand at this rap thing as well. We did a song two years ago for his debut project; sounded nothing like that traditional TM sound.

Pretty sure Heatmakerz popped up and did some work for Bound off of Kanye's new album.

@ anyone claiming French Montana's weak self.

This argument is tired as ever , especially since NYC has the most young talent in the country right now . In 2-3 years this discussion is gonna be laughable
How many times has this been echoed only for them to fizzle out? Sorta like the Knicks.....

i'm not gonna sit here and argue which region is winning... because like someone stated there is like 2-3 people popping from every state at max....

but as far as the new NYC sound i thoroughly believe that over the next few years NYC rappers will prosper to new heights again.

For the first time in a LONG time the young cats in NY aren't looking for a certain sound they are drawing from ALL the new hot artist and it's showing in the music. The culture seems to be coming back into Rap.... cats are trying to be DIFFERENT and unique, cats are still spitting but it's no longer over all boom bap ****.

this is a pretty good convo on the whole situation
