Black Culture Discussion Thread

-The GOP is systematically trying to suppress the black vote. So black voting rights will be a major focus regardless.

-Second what specific issues do you think are being ignored. I often here is criticism but people don't get too specific. Is it that you think done of Harris' positions will have a net benefit for the black community, or is your issue in regards to the rhetoric used. In that things are not labeled specifically "for black people"

Both. I don't think her strategy will have much of an effect on the black community. To your second point about rhetoric, I know she's not going to out right state she is doing such and such for the black community. I'm just not strictly sold on umbrella policies that will benefit everyone. That's fine, but there are still specific needs that have we need to be met directly for us. It's done for gay rights, immigration and so forth.

Funny thing is that Harris is a big Too Short fan. If she was dancing to one of his songs in a video she would ha e gotten tons of blowback

Imagine 25 year old white women quoting Too Short lyeics on Twitter talking about "how dare she"

And that's part of why she's not getting my vote. We don't need to fall for the okie doke anymore. Other groups are being prioritized so they are going hard at appealing to their needs but there are no black issues being addressed directly. We are only being addressed when it comes to getting out vote.

damn, you actually woke as hell

Yea she addressed that in her Breakfast Club interview from earlier this year.

I mean, folks like what they like. Doesn't mean it will get in the way of their practice.

I'm not too rough on her on the whole music selection and edges thing, but I'm not gonna be upset at those who are hecause it cant be denied that it doesn't happen. Folks have the justification. The Hillary hot sauce in my bag comment was just :smh:

What was the issue with Hot Sauce in the bag comment? :lol

Not like she said it just to say it.

You really a bit too caught up on that ''person of color sound bite". She probably framed it that way to make an inclusionary statement regarding the Democratic coalition.

You can read exerpts from her book. She acknowledges and identifies as a black person. She ain't out here like Tiger. But still, that seems like a silly thing to want to correct.

I think people are rightfully upset and some of the **** she done in the past. But instead of having a level headed nuance conversation about it, they are searching for ways to build a bigger case to dismiss her. Often times with insignificant stuff.

Like the worst thing she did at the Townhall was handwave away how complicit she was in a system she knowledges is unfair and unjust. Secondly she seems to have a blind spot for the systemic forces at pay that cause people to have to interact with the criminal justice system and she gives little thought to how prisoners are exploited in jails and prisons.

I do not like all of Cory Booker's economics but he seems much more knowledgeable on these things.
show me where she identifies black
where it isnt just for show or to her benefit 8o

i mean real talk
what if she does have in in her bag
i hate hot sauce so i wasnt trippin at the comment

We know gooood and gahdamn well she lyin  and she snitched on herself at the end

I mean cmon
i dont think she was tryna be malicious or anything
she was just tryna sound relatable to a community thats all
was it corny maybe
but thats a small gripe in the overall scheme of things

I would have to disagree a bit.

The thing is that's is exactly what criminal justice reform is being pitched as. It helps people of all backgrounds but is especially effects the black community.

Gay rights is sort an umbrella thing too because the gay community is not homogeneous, and it has expanded to include trans rights too.

Immigration is definitely not for one community. I am a black man from the Caribbean, if Trump's immigration policy were in place in the 1990s, I do not get a green card.

But I share in your frustration about how certain policies are never talked about in the context of helping black America. The thing is some people act like if a bill doesn't state "to help black people" it in no way can. Universal healthcare, a jobs guarantee, Postal banking, and tons of other economic programs would help uplift black people but they are never talked about in that context.

Now one hand I can understand why a left wing politician might not want to use such term because many white voters turn their backs on anything they perceive as helpful to black people. But I think within the community too many folk hand wave these things away because it is not labeled for us.

I don't really understand the hate for Terry Crews. People always talk about the lack of male abuse victims who come forward you got the same time clown Terry for not being man enough. No wonder male abuse victims dont come forward more often. The point he's making is that having big muscles does it make a difference because this producer has power over you and can ruin your career regardless of if you kick his a** or not. what exactly would beating the crap out of him do if he can take away your livelihood?

Kamala Harris seem like just another mascot. She was against cops having body cameras. She was against DNA evidence being introduced to free a innocent black man. Too many red flags. Her team got her bumping Cardi B to get black people votes, she's not talking about any real issues. Black folks ain't falling for that no more. Using rappers and tryna gain "black cred" won't work. It didn't work for Hilary. I wanna see if she brings her husband out to push this "I'm down" agenda.

Then when you find out this is her communications director helping her "connect" to black americans it makes sense.

I understand some of us want to vote for a black person just cuz they're black but it makes no sense to vote for somebody that just gonna be another puppet for WS.

Awww yes, the classic Tariq Nasheed approach of criticizing every candidate but yet offering no solutions or alternatives. How many election cycles has he been doing this?

I thought it was a dumb comment too, but apparently she has been collecting hot sauce and eating a ton of it since the 1990s.

It is not some **** she just made up. So I just wrote it off as a non issue. She likes hot sauce, she is aware about the stereotype about black people liking.

Maybe it was best for her not to make that joke, appealing to stereotypes is never a really good look unless you are very clever avoid it. Which Hillary never has been. But it was not some crazy attempt at pandering.

Usually, rural white people and young folk get pandered too wayyyyyy you harder than black people in politics. The surrogate game is more used with black communities.

From her book...

After dinner, we headed to our Election Night venue, where more than a thousand people had gathered for the party. I was no longer a candidate for office. I was a U.S. senator-elect—the first black woman from my state, and the second in the nation’s history, to earn that job. I had been elected to represent more than thirty-nine million people—roughly one out of every eight Americans from all backgrounds and walks of life.

My mother understood very well that she was raising two black daughters. She knew that her adopted homeland would see Maya and me as black girls, and she was determined to make sure we would grow into confident, proud black women.

She refers to herself as a black person all through it.

Yes, because I am sure a political autobiography with light policy brief be jumping of the shelves in the black community. Hell in any community.

If you're planning just to handwave what I post, just tell me from the jump  . **** is mad time consuming to format on mobile. :lol

The problem with Terry is hes tryna down black men because some disagree with the stance he took. Just because I would've decided to slap the ***** out of the dude who would've done the same to me, doesn't make it toxic masculinity. I have the right to act accordingly. He chose not to. It also feels like he pandering to the metro crowd.

No, I am saying no such thing. Don't even try that. :lol

Unless ever book ever written are Political autobiographies with policy briefings, no reasonable person would think I am saying that.

I see you took a class on baiting at the "DC American School for Internet Discourse"
