Basketball Thread About Nothing

not necessarily a commentary on the guy in the vid because maybe he can really hoop but with all due respect, no disrespect…respectfully, it goes to show that an edit can make almost anyone look like they are sorta kinda nice with it😂

i wonder how much of that is from that and1 mixtape era, hot sauce defo had it too…professor just way more staccato/stilted…personally i find hezi gawd’s handle hideous but he makes it work 🤷🏿‍♂️😂

Hezi looks flat footed when he does his moves. Not as ugly as Professor with his scarecrow arms but it does look weird.

Hesi's handle and his overall steelo is so off putting. And guys like Geo Wise, can't even believe he is a basketball celebrity or whatever in this social media era. Dude isn't better than most of us pickup warriors in the 00's from Rhinehart Fitness Center.

On a similar note, I think BallisLife would beat And 1 in game, if you could have a time machine and bring them in their primes to today. I like BIL has real basketball players so when the competition gets real (and not like just move out the way so you can throw/catch a lob), their guys are more real basketball with the ability to make highlight plays than just the former. And the East coast team (should be called South because they're out of FLA but whatevs) gets in real leagues and tournaments.

Haven't watched these videos yet, just saw them on my YT list

My friend sent this to me. It’s not new but was interesting. I’m sure all of us watched And 1 mixtapes growing up. I think it was 9th grade when they dropped for me. Sht was amazing lol.

Personally I expected him to be more humble than he was. I thought he’d straight up admit he wasn’t good enough and was too little. Not athletic enough, not strong enough etc. I think he’s 5’8”?

Instead he was pretty defensive about how good he is/was. One commenter basically asked him to be honest that he wasn’t good enough. But Professor more or less was like “nba would’ve been a challenge for sure”. Bruh 😂😂😂

Just started and I already love the phrase "I don't carry the ball hardly at all...I have a handful of moves that are arguable carries"

i’d mostly agree on that hypothetical scenario, but moreso because today’s players are inarguably much more skilled & have more in their bag comparatively and less that the and1 guys weren’t legit hoopers because they all were pretty legit players for their day that either fumbled opportunities or just didn’t get to that next level…i’m not sure that it necessarily makes current players overall game better but for the purposes of a hypothetical, loosely officiated run i would give it to the ballislife squad, for sure

i think that geo kid is more of an ironic thing, no? attention is king these days so props to him for finessing it into…something?

😂 i understand what he means tho…

I mean he's popular enough he gets invited to celebrity/influencer runs and I assume probably has monetized his social media accounts. But literally, he's not good enough we should know his name is a pre everyone on social media and every phone has a camera world. He would/should just be known in his locale as that little kid who comes to hoop and just dribbles in circles and badly misses long 3s, don't pick him up.

Some were I guess, maybe AO, Alimoe, Escallade, Prime Objective (6'5 scorer), but a lot of them dudes I wouldn't consider real hoopers as in could have pro/semi pro aspirations. I'm telling you, Hot Sauce, Professor, White Chocolate, them ****** literally didn't want to play ME one on one. I'm kind of physically imposing I guess esp when I wasn't fat, 6ft tall with a 6'6 wingspan and probably 220 at the time. Them ****** just pick shorter, thinner guys out of the crowd to come play them 1 on 1 and still have to cheat half the time to win. Joe Polk was like "play my man Malik Yoba next" (I guess I looked like Malik Yoba) and they were all like "nah"

is white chocolate the dude from dc? 🤣 nah, the phrase "play my man Malik Yoba next" is wild tho, i don’t think i’d play you after that either 🤣🤣🤣…given, all the and1 guys were not potential pros, i do think an advantage those players you mentioned specifically & more generally players of that & previous eras/generations had/have is they understood their own limitation(s)/role better and could sort of maximize on it. whereas today because players are so skilled, i think they can miss developing that confidence of knowing what actually works & why.

What do yall think about Devin Williams? In the Lab dude.

he is certi, to me…that 10k hrs series he did some while back is classic

They had just seen me/us play is why. I'm not overly physical, but since getting "in the gym" (this was post touring in NBA arenas And 1, it was literally like 100 people at the game) was on the line everyone was fouling a lot so I got to use that part of the game and basically even on dribble drives guys would just push and hold so you kind of half turn/crab dribble to back them up (like how Magic had to bring the ball up in the 80s) and push off some back so they didn't want to play anybody that physical plus I'm way bigger than both of them at the time. And yes White Chocolate from DC. He lowkey had a jumper, he was hitting. And he gets CRAZY high. Like how people who are anti weed pretend weed smokers get, he probably didnt know his name when I saw him if I would have asked.

I like dev

That Og 10k series with the Asian kids? Man I loved that series. Pure fire. It’s cool Dev is still doing his thing and is as big as ever with social media. I like his game. His hezi is OD.

I think anyone who follows the NBA somewhat closely knows The Professor likely would never have made it in his prime. If he'd really committed to the JC/Div I route maybe he gets to the G League/ a high level overseas but yea I also couldn't see him in the NBA. Him saying it would have been "tough" or whatever is fine. I get him not saying he had no shot to ever crack the league, there's many guys who thought they had what it took and barely cracked a roster. At least he's not some delusional guy saying he had all the talent and would have killed it in the league.

I mean in that video he said he had walked on to a Community college team and got zero burn, played 3 mins a game when someone got injured. College route was a dead end which is why he quit for And 1.

do y’all still play 21 at all? went back in the archives for this vid 😮‍💨, when i moved out here to cali it was rare that someone would want to play a 21 over say a 3v3, or even a king of the court 1v1…it was kinda odd to me that cats would just walk in the gym and try to run a game 1st without like a warmup game of 21, i actually don’t even think to ask any more…

I love that lefty dude game, his handles are nuts.

Also them ball is life cats came to Raleigh and got they head smacked.

Def not playing 21…with more than 5 people. We play “kings” 3 dribbles max. Come to think of it I prolly ain’t played 21 since I was in high school.

so you’d rather just start playing 1s or a game when everyone is just coming on the court? it just seems odd to just start a game when just coming in the gym and there isn’t already a game going plus most times you don’t get to see who can actually hoop such that you get balanced teams

I don’t like king of the court at all. Too much standing around waiting. When I was in Hs we used to play 21 with 20 MFers. U better have handle cuz 7 dudes trapping u 😂

those 10+ people games of 21 were almost always ridiculous but such an underrated part of 21, figuring out what to do/how to get a shot off once you beat your defender(s) 😂

rarely played king of the court as a youngin but came to appreciate it more now especially with limited dribbles…adds another level of strategy to the game

are people saying it the same move? it’s so clearly, not even nearly a similar move, did create space tho

always loved seeing that penny clip, for some reason i remember the move being more exaggerated than it was…penny was so smooth with it! saw an interview where he talks about it, and remembers the play but never did it again in game. wiggins has added that move to his bag, even sets it up with the same l-r cross; even tho he gets a ton a space off it with the way the rules are interpreted now i wonder if he also has worked on a counter too

:smh:

A Basketball Guy | Craig Smith @CSmithBball Again I’m only the messenger. This is from a youth tournament in Kansas City Missouri. Another lovely altercation between emotional coach and referee. Then a kids kicking the ref while he’s down. Everyone is at fault here. You be the judge. SAD! Adults we gotta be better! -
