Basketball Thread About Nothing

Ok this one was impressive. They’re still playing lazy defense but the way she’s getting into her shot so quickly is tough to guard.

Calls out a switch still let’s her catch the ball and get the shot off with no contest 😂. Man’s thought his presence would make her miss I guess

I want to see the misses though

calling for a switch & then proceeding to be just as lackadaisical & give her space is comedy 🤣🤣🤣 (could be the edit tho 🧐) but i think it’s an automatic/inherent reaction to playing against a female they don’t know like that, especially as full grown adults…not even saying these dudes could lock her up if they wanted to but there are so many levels to why some random guy playing against a random woman would auto-regulate most times whereas she wouldn’t necessarily. it would look kinda wild if a dude was to really turn up, i’ve definitely seen it happen tho 😂

this is compounded by the fact she knows how to play, use her body/physicality to create space, and the level comp…altho entertaining for sure

Yeah its like they take it down a notch just cause its a chick.

But hell nah if im getting burned like that im clamping down on yo *** idc if its a chick or a 10yr old kid.

Dude guarding her was thinking he could just use his height but regardless she puts on a clinic showing you can do so much with solid dribbling, pump fakes, confidence and knowledge of the game. I'd love to play with her because she can see the floor, shoots when she can, and moves. So many guys get open shots and don't shot. So many guys get the ball and can't see open teammates. And so many guys don't understand the game.

Played yesterday and had my big (I mean big for pickup) under the basket and I drew the defense and threw a pass right to the side of the rim, where he should have stayed to easily catch the ball and make a layup an elementary school kid could make. Instead, he's flaring out down the baseline....for what? :smh:

not the homie walking off, head down, in dejection 🤣🤣🤣

i maintain, while she is definitely better than your average hooper pulling up to a la fitness/24, her comp also aren’t playing her very seriously (not much incentive to, & good amount of downside), i kinda want to see her hoop against other women who hoop…and it could be #justthehighlights and the majority of the run was clamps

In all honesty, I think dudes naturally let up when playing women and children in a competitive setting.

It's a lose lose. If you get cooked, you get embarrassed.

If you play hard and cook her, you are "only doing it because she is a girl."

Like you said, I would prefer to see her vs. high level women players.
People that would actually go at her neck and she has to the same.
he has some talent for sure though. Not knocking it.
I like seeing her make these dudes mad

I think we seen enough lol

We get it, she hits at 100%. Almost is like she edits her clips and only shows the makes. Weird

But idgaf though if she’s coming at me with that much testosterone, I’m not gonna play soft… mouth that loud anyone can get it. I’ll play like a feminist and swat that set shot into the 14th row lol. Usually if a female gets in the pick up runs I’ll make a judgement call whether to go light or not. Just like when a 13 yr old gets in. Sometimes yea we don’t wanna abuse a child but other times it’s obvious they can hoop for their age and they should get abused

i’d argue it’s even worse than that, a guy that can’t actually hoop would look kinda crazy going in super serious, even moreso if the guy actually can hoop…i’ve seen it happen both ways where the other players are looking at dude funny like “is this dude serious 🧐.” i think it is a difference between a young boi in the run & female, for the kid going at him a lil bit is almost like a rite of passage, like welcome to big time…for a girl i think most guys are going to play it such that they have some plausible deniability 😂

i know for myself, if i decide to run, the main thing i’m thinking about is don’t get injured… so i’m always at about 50-60% effort and i think most folk are somewhere in that range. some may give more effort but generally there isn’t that much incentive for anyone to play all that tough, especially when it’s all randoms as opposed to group of folks that know each other/used to playing together.

I think we seen enough lol

even saying it would be a judgement call kinda makes the point but also i think you’d automatically just not use your full strength to knock/body her off her square a bit the same way you would if it was a dude. and to your point, you could have put the clamps on her for most of game(s) but she is definitely good enough to get a few off and now you’re looking wild on her ig 😂

My friend sent this to me. It’s not new but was interesting. I’m sure all of us watched And 1 mixtapes growing up. I think it was 9th grade when they dropped for me. Sht was amazing lol.

Personally I expected him to be more humble than he was. I thought he’d straight up admit he wasn’t good enough and was too little. Not athletic enough, not strong enough etc. I think he’s 5’8”?

Instead he was pretty defensive about how good he is/was. One commenter basically asked him to be honest that he wasn’t good enough. But Professor more or less was like “nba would’ve been a challenge for sure”. Bruh 😂😂😂

I remember watching that. I don't remember him being not humble. I mean most guys who are good are gonna have an edge to them and feel like they're the greatest ever if you give them the right circumstances. I mean dude was out there giving tips to Harden and Harden was learning from him. That's going to blow up your ego.

Also I thought he was like 6'1 or 6'2, but maybe I misremembered.

Edit: Yep - 5'10 according to his wikipedia. But there are some crazy ballhandlers in the league right now at that size so that's not automatically disqualifying.

Google has him at 5’8”

And yeah the video had a lot of that stuff - he didn’t drop Harden or any nba players by name but he loved to say he gives nba players / all stars that work in workout situations. I’m just saying- bruh… it’s okay- we know you got game- it’s okay to admit you’d have no chance at playing in the nba. “It would be challenging” - just no lol

you’d be a bit defensive too if a bunch folks (who probably can’t/don’t hoop) were questioning your merit(s)…it’s understandable

i definitely think there are many athletes can/will have a confidence that borders on delusion, and to an extent is a necessary to even be competitive & level up…and while not uncommon, there actually aren’t/weren’t that many guards his size in the league, even if you go back to when he would have been younger, and way less so now…and if you think about those that are/were able to compete as a smaller guard (now & when he would have been ‘eligible’) they did have elite athleticism (more than just running & jumping) to go along with being highly skilled so while not disqualifying, it definitely makes it a much bigger challenge for smaller guards

And for the record, I don't think he'd have done well in the NBA. I finally finished watching that 30/30 "the greatest mixtape ever" and they noted that Skip is the only one from those And1 mixtapes to ever make/stick in the NBA. So I think it's obvious what would have happened had he truly tried.

Probably his two biggest issues are what good is he when he doesn't have the ball, and then secondly, defending his position.

But like he says at the end, he has no regrets and YouTube and the spiderman suits and all that is definitely where I think he belongs rather than trying to help some team win a championship.

He was “teaching “ Harden a move he so called created called the teleport which we had been doing for like a decade prior, (more of a 21 move, but you bait or sleep the defender with multiple like between the leg dribbles in place then run past their shoulder and when they reach you put it behind your back and between their legs) Harden was definitely being generous for the sake of the video content collaboration and I would guarantee has done it before even in HS messing around. I like that the Professor is eating though still off social media, in fact he is doing so more than a lot of the other And 1 era guys, but NBA, fam get real.

Yeah things like the Eurostep were being done in the US long before guys over there were doing it. Lots of that in basketball. And in life generally. Black culture or non-white folks come up with something and then 10, 15, 25, 40 years later white folks "discover" it and then teach it to other people.

i’d agree there isn’t that much that is actually new but “it’s never what you do, but how it’s done” so it should/would not be surprising if harden or any other players in the assoc. do actually learn from guys like him and how he might think about shifting defenders or putting a defender in a certain position(s) to be shifted, and their ‘philosophy’ in terms of their skill…obviously it’s levels, but i would think most that are genuinely into hoop are going to respect the knowledge, to an extent

when it comes to random people online’s criticism, he stance is understandable…he has played on a higher than most, has probably ran in games with guy with legit game who have played in the league/overseas and maybe held his own. so i can understand where someone like him would think if some things were to have went in his way, it still would but super tough, but maybe…

not necessarily a commentary on the guy in the vid because maybe he can really hoop but with all due respect, no disrespect…respectfully, it goes to show that an edit can make almost anyone look like they are sorta kinda nice with it😂

Professor got the ugliest good handles. He looks like a damn scarecrow whenever he starts his crossovers and whatever else he does.

i wonder how much of that is from that and1 mixtape era, hot sauce defo had it too…professor just way more staccato/stilted…personally i find hezi gawd’s handle hideous but he makes it work 🤷🏿‍♂️😂
