But its not like he was forced to sign that contract with the Mavs. He had options. He could have signed a max deal with another team. He made a conscious business decision to take less because he feels there's other, less tangible value to staying with the Mavs. He's not undervaluing himself -- he's just calculating his value in way that's different than you think he should.

Why should players think like that. You think these owner got that mindset?
I have no problem with a player who wants to get all he can and max out on every contract. But I'm also not going to say that a guy who's made 100s of millions over his career is "jeopardizing" himself by "settling" for only $8 million a year.

Right. Dirk isn't doing anything that thousands of other people in different businesses all over the country haven't done. The value of staying in Dallas and surrounding himself with talent > max dollars somewhere else...
That's his prerogative and it wasn't forced on him. Acting like this is some mockery because of the CBA is asinine. There are issues with the current deal, but using Dirk or Duncan as examples are completely ridiculous.
