So, what should Cleveland do now? There will be noise about trading Irving, but I wouldn’t go there. Irving still has star potential, and all the chatter about him wanting out of Cleveland means nothing unless he’s willing to sign a short extension (as LeBron did) or even take the one-year qualifying offer in restricted free agency (something no star player has ever done). The Cavs control the situation, and though Irving has belched out a so-so season, they should be in no rush to deal him.

Zach Lowe with the correct assessment of the Cleveland mess.

In the first round they faced Washington, who normally were a tough matchup for them but Arenas and Caron Butler had gotten hurt towards the end of the season, so it was basically like playing a lottery team in the first round.

They played the Nets in the second round who were a mediocre 41-win team (only in the East would a 41-win team make the second round). The Pistons in the ECF were their toughest competition, but that was hardly the Pistons of old, the team under Flip Saunders was completely different from the great Larry Brown teams.

Even if you take issue with the word "cakewalk", I think one can easily argue that it was the the easiest road to a Finals in recent NBA history.

How can a road to the Finals be considered easy for a team when they only have 1 all star caliber player on the roster, a mediocre coach, & two of their 3 conference series went 6 games?

Far from a cakewalk, far from easy. CLE was not good enough as a team to have an "easy" road to the finals.
They had the best player, best defense, and best cast of role players in their conference. They got a fortunate draw by avoiding Miami/Chicago and playing a 41-win team in the second round. They weren't even tested by a team remotely on their level until the ECF, that normally doesn't happen in the NBA playoffs.

The entire Eastern conference should have been eliminated from the playoffs that year.

Damian Lillard is participating in every All-Star event (Rookie-Sophomore game, Shooting Stars, Skills Challenge, 3-Point Shootout, Slam Dunk Contest, All-Star Game)

Don't players usually sit out the rookie-sophomore game if they are in the All-Star game?

Chicago actually had the best defense in the conference, and the Pistons had the best cast of role players.

How they were not tested when they had a 6 game series right before they played DET?

Another alarming thing about this whole Cleveland situation is that may end up with another top 3 pick.
Wouldn't be a bad thing in this particular draft. It'd be pretty hard for them to whiff.

But you're right, they shouldn't be in this position anyway :lol

PG was already in the dunk contest and was Garbo. Let's see if he can come back harder this time without glow in the dark clothes and flight attendants.

They were playing a 41-win team (41 wins in the EAST) c'mon man. How about this, name another conference champion that faced worse competition in rounds 1-3, in the past 15 years?

Blake and Irving did both, most recently. And Anthony Davis might be in both games too

No, they at least faced a competitive team in the first round. Cleveland faced a lottery team in the first round

Lillard is explosive as **** though, he just doesn't show it that much in games because he pulls up for jumpers so often. No clue how he'd be in a contest though.

ehhhhh....seems like every time I catch a Blazers game Lillard tries his damndest to yam on somebody and usually fails.

that door is locked with a security guard on it, what the hell?  what is he, an animal?
