Simultaneous users.  The "thread about nothing" has a lot of posts, but you never have dozens of people simultaneously adding posts to a thread that already contains thousands of replies.  

It's one thing to lift a heavy object every few minutes.  It's quite another to essentially juggle that heavy object. 

Under the circumstances, it's best to move to a dedicated playoff thread for tonight's game, draft lottery, etc. as I can't guarantee that the system would hold up under the strain of the OKC/San Antonio game.  With a separate playoff thread, there should be no danger of that happening.
