Unproven coaches making top 5 NBA Coaching Salaries.

Is this a new trend?
With the CBA effectively hard capping teams with punitive luxury taxes and reduced MLEs, teams have to look for other ways to get an advantage; so now you have teams like the Knicks and Warriors paying a lump sum for coaches. Or the Pistons giving SVG all that control.

Now who knows if these coaches will be good, but that's the thought process.

5mil/year? wonder if ny tried to at least offer him the veteran's minimum.

this is like a competitor company offering you more money and a promotion.

Luke Walton on that coaching staff?

Knicks 2015 champs, he will turn Melo into the white Larry Bird.

Imagine if the Nets job had opened now with Kidd being available.

I definitely understand the thought process for a GOOD/proven coach but it's kind of crazy that unproven guys are getting this kind of money.

How much money would guys like Thibs/Carlisle get? What leverage did DFish have?

At the end of the day though, it doesn't really matter. Doesn't effect cap space and teams fire coaches regardless of money all the time. If the owner is willing to pay it, it's on him.

Fish's leverage consisted of Rambis, Cleamons and Cartwright being the only other viable options for Phil to have his way.
