Exactly why I find all these purported "done deals" nonsensical  

I'm still iffy about letting RVP go for so little but I guess it's probably what's best for both sides.

-32 this year
-Coming off injury
-Wages are outrageously high
-1 year left on current deal

Better to save the high wages, and get something out of him on a TF rather than letting him go for free.
