Exactly. He's not close to that level anymore.

The hardest part of it is that he is still easily top 3 in the league (I say #1 but let's save that for another day) so it's hard to imagine what prime is if you are still one of the greatest players in the world..

But I agree he is not nearly as athletic as he used to be.. But I would say he is still just as good..What he lost in jumping ability and speed, he gained in better shot selection, understanding of the game, and court vision...

What he would do if you added those 2 together

6 for 24

and he averaged more assists in his prime so no, all his skills have degraded.

really your response to better shot selection, is one game, in which his team still win a championship. 23 points a quarter of his team's points.. And even with a bad % shooting performance he knew enough to step up another part of his game to ensure his team won...  Epitome of hater is a comment like that..

also better court vision =/= more assissts.. It is the understanding of how and where to get teammates involved. Understanding what player needs and wants... Court Vision is knowing what is going on around you not just on offense but defense too..

And even if it were so his assists are in line with what his career normally is...

The man has of course lost to an extent the things that father time always takes (running speed, jumping, ability to stay healthy, dunking) but at the same time has improved the other parts of his game to such an extent that it seems like his game gets better the older he gets...

What he have, like 12-13 30 point playoff games, 5-6 boards and assists a game as well for the postseason, and his skills have degraded
pimp.gif
Shows you where he was then.

Someday when the dust settles and people aren't mad anymore, they are going to sit back and MARVEL at what kid has done.  Look at all the guys that been there thru the years, (Shaq, AI, TMac, Vince, Stack, G Hill) they all fall off, and Kobe still sittin there with the elites now (Durant, Melo, Bron, Wade, D12).  Un....real.
smh.gif

If he can hold out for 2 more years and then 2 of those "less than" type years, his career numbers/highlights/achievements are going to be flat out disgusting.

That has always been the most impressive part to me.  He's stayed relevant and is still among the top players in the new "era" of stars so props to him for that.

CP i think Kobe still has at least 2 years in him, but i dont think he'll be able to take anymore then that. He'll try to though knowing him, but hes just going to have to hang em up at that point.

Very true statement my dude, Kobe's reign may even be longer than Jordans when it's all said and done. He is standalone the best player in the league and that will probably not change for at least the next 3 years. If he wins two more Championships we are going to have to start looking at him as the greatest player ever. Oh and I'm not a fan of his at all, I just have to respect greatness when I see it.

Lets not act like he has reduced to a early-mid 30's version of air jordan aka chair jordan. If vince can still get up there (which he showed in a few games last season) i dont see how Kobe cant. Plus he was banged up and hurt throughout the season.

mikes athleticism at any age > kobes athleticism at any age

you obviously didnt watch the last three championships

mike was more explosive at ages 33,34,35 than kobe is now at age 31

dont forget he banged on a prime dikembe mutombo at age 34

and dunked from the free throw line at age 34

Well, I meant 2 years top level and then towards the end, maybe a little of that Reggie Miller role, where he's not the best player on his team, he's just a guy that can get 12-15 a night, but maybe go to the well now and again for a 28 point night just for old times sake.  I think Reggie did alright for 3-4 seasons in that way, Kobe could too since he takes good care of himself.
All of it depends on his legs holding up enough for him to not be a liability on D at that point.

I wouldn't include Shaq in that list. He won a title in his 13th year in the league as a top player, too.
