Who Here Has A "Good" Job With No College Degree VOL. 40K+

I would love to take off 3-5 years away from my career..and I just work a job that pays more than a teacher's salary..and then go back to my teaching career with no student loans

not bad...how many days do you work?

howd u snag that gig? any certs needed?
Diff positions require diff certs
I make that much cus i work on servers, too. A desktop/laptop only position would pay around $15-20 an hr.

I got a guy I work with who is a Field Tech for Dell, but he says it's more like a contractor job that a straight 9-5, as in they call you when they need to send you on a job. I have had them come by my job sometimes when I have to have a motherboard or power supply replaced but never pried too much about it.

Dell outsources work to contractors such as unisys, pinnacle, & insource. They do the same work as the folks that work straight for dell, but get paid less, get less work, & zero benefits..

Yep. Union work. My uncle owns his own plumbing company and pays out the +%@ for his employees.

I'm.trying to get on but they aren't budging. 5 years retail experience + a marketing degree + working on masters in finance and you'd THINK they'd want to hire me...

I worked for C&S wholesale as an order selector in a cold storage warehouse for three different stretches in my life.  I was making about what you made, but when I was 20 I think I made 63K before taxes when I moved up to the second highest team. I had a horrible schedule and worked my butt off every single minute. I stupidly spent most of my money on frivolous things I no longer own like I brand new Lincoln Navigator. All I did was work, shower and sleep pretty much. I quickly realized that was a young mans game when I tore a bunch of muscles while throwing turkeys around Thanksgiving one year for an order. That cold is no joke.

P.S. you cherry pickers were the worst! lol . If you weren't in their good graces it was always a long time before getting your items down.

Real talk...you wanna have a tough job...be an order selector in a freezer...will make the grownest toughest man bow down sooner or later. Trust me...before i got the cake job of a cherry picker, i was a order selector and its NO JOKE. A lot of the cats in the warehouse were suffering from depression and lack of sleep. Young 19 year olds pulling up to work in benzos and bimmers but quiet as hell because they were unhappy. It wasnt for me. I finished school two years ago and now have a job supervising making the same amount working 34 hrs a week.

how did you guys get this job? Whats an order selector in a freezer? Elaborate please.

I made 50k last year with my lil businesses, doing a lot better this year. (Still in school though. Taking one class per semester though

)

My pops is a truck driver, he made 75k last year. (elementary was his highest "education")

Grab a cdl a, drive trucks for a year then go apply at your local waste management.

Great pay, atleast 45k a year, union and excellent benefits..

That's just my plan, though.

work as at a porter in manhattan. 32BJ union, with benefits etc i made 48k last year.

Union jobs make good money. Plumbing, stone mason, iron worker they start off good and have good raises.

I worked for GFS in 2006 as a order selector and made $31,000+ at 19 yeas old but it was the most physically demanding job I've ever had. Worked Sunday-Thursday 10-12 hrs a day running up and down an aisle picking orders non stop! After a year I made the decision to move back home and transfer to a store part time to finish school. Best decision I ever made...I'll be graduating next month with my bachelors in criminal justice and have a job lined up with the federal government as a CO. I'll only be making 40,000 starting out but I can't complain.

more info...

I just got fired from being a video technician at an Indian casino (!$*+*% pay anyways...less than 30k per year). I have a Pharmacy Technician license but can't find a job anywhere even willing to interview because "I lack experience." That *@*$ is starting to feel like it was a waste of time and money. And I can't do *@*$ but barely live with these unemployment checks. I need to come up on something like a few of the examples in this thread.

Started entry level in a retail job (Starbucks). Worked my way up and 2 years later I was store manager making about 38k. Switched over to a cell phone company making 45k plus 10k commission.

Now I'm a medical interpreter (had to take a 40 hour class to get certified) and a per diem EMT on the weekends (also had to get certified).

I make less now, but my job is more rewarding/fulfilling and I dont have to sell anything to anyone, meet sales quotas, or work holidays.
