has anyone upgraded to marshmallow on a nexus 6? I'm wondering if it is worth it to flash or just wait for the update.
I'm gonna upgrade tonight. Just waiting for a reliable no-encrypt + root + r/w method to emerge (and I should probably do actual work while I'm at work).

I'm running the developer preview right now which is already smooth so I'm eager to see if it can get any better.

people say a phone is like owning a computer to justify the price of the phone but if you just factor in the contract alone the phone is even more money than a computer... for example i have a macbook pro from 2011 which is paid 1600 for and is still going strong and still have it... now i have a htc m9 that i just paid retail for 500 and then i have my monthly bill which has unlimited data thats 60 a month thats 720 a year just to use my phone and not factoring in the 500 i just paid to buy the phone... talk about costly just to own a smartphone... with that being said i still cant live without my smartphone so i just have to accept the overpriced plans

I'm also having trouble understanding how paying full price for a phone is cheaper than paying 200+tax for it in the long run on a two year contract.

The cost of subsidizing the phone is integrated into the plan price. If u don't upgrade after your two years is up, you're still paying that subsidized price, even if the phone is essentially paid off.

It bothers me that people still don't realize that they're paying the full cost (and possibly more) of their phones via their phone plan. No your carrier isn't paying that extra $400 difference vs. retail for you just because they like you.

I'm still having trouble with this maybe I'm just an idiot and don't understand this. In my case I'm on a family plan, 4 phones monthly bill $200 for 8gb data with Verizon. Paid 200+tax for all the phones on the plan. Once the contract is up the price of the plan isn't changing so how exactly am I paying the extra cost?

8gb to split? My goodness

To explain this in a simple way. If you would have not subsided your phones, it would still be 200/mo. After the 2 years, your phone would go down by $xx.xx amount since your phone would essentially be paid off.

For example, my bill w/ T-mobile right now is $250 after tax, I'm paying off 3 phones, once those phones are paid in full, my bill drops down to about $170 after tax. Now, if I would have my phone susidized, my bill would always be $250, even after the two years.

OP2 has been nothing but good to me but I lowkey wish I waited for the 6P solely for the software support

Ahh okay that makes sense. So essentially the bill will go up after the contract is up until the phone is paid off? We're almost always connected to WiFi so we rarely use up the 8gigs lol.

Maybe Apple had the right approach when it comes to processing power and RAM optimizaition

Its just ios is so lightweight. Android isn't that light

Sheesh my Note 5 battery has gotten atrocious. Probably right where my Note 3 was before I traded it in. Anyone else experiencing this?
Until Samsung does something about how their phones manage RAM and all the BS background processes I will never buy another Galaxy. Its a shame because their camera and screens are IMO the industry standard

real question is...why do we need phones with all that ram and processor power? samsung pushing out phones that **** on my 2010 macbook. just to operate a mobile OS. idk that is ridiculous.

this. i think its all about optimization. i think apple gets to work with one and only one phone so they can focus their software for that hardware specifically. android is multiplatform, so it gets customized for w.e specific phone and then make gets some optimization after the fact. but thats kind of redundant if they customize in the first place cuz then u create a need for desktop power hardware, which is unnecessary for a phone.

new surface pro 4 looks solid.

Gonna order my 6P this week but I'm mad its gonna cost me more to do a JUMP upgrade for another phone and return it to get rid of my Nexus 6. Unless I sell it for what I owe on it.

So how does this work? I am eligible for JUMP now and I want to get a new phone, except all the good android phones aren't with any carriers. Do I turn in my iPhone 6 and they pay off that remaining balance. Then I return the phone I "JUMPED" to and my balance is cleared?

Basically, I did it before when I used to work at T-Mo. Use a JUMP to another phone (preferably a basic one if they have any) and return it. Now, you will get charged a restocking fee which is why I suggest a basic phone ($25 restocking fee vs $50 restocking fee on a smartphone).

The balance on your original phone gets wiped away as does the phone you return and voila you're good.

Snapdragon 820 is gonna be a beast. Hope the Nexus 5 2016 (if there is one) has it. Would likely get rid of the 6P if it does.

  • Speed - 35% faster compared to SD 810
  • GPU - Better performance ( +40%)
  • Quick Charge 3.0 - 85% in mere 35 min
  • X12 LTE - up to 600 Mbps Cat. 12 LTE downlink , up to 150Mbps Cat 13 uplink

Wow we just got all these new phones and already were waiting on the next nexus lol

There's always something to look forward to, especially with technology.

The first batch of next gen phones (HTC M10, Galaxy S7) will probably be coming out in 6 months or so, so it's not THAT far away. The 820 should be a legit upgrade from any SoCs available at this point.

The Surface Pro 4 & Surface Book :x :x

Microsoft coming with some heat. NFL commentators are still gonna refer to the Surface Pros as an iPad though.

Agreed. Microsoft hit a home run with Windows 10. Made my Surface Pro 3 amazing. Now the 4 looks great and the Book looks amazing! I might have to cop that book when this Dell XPS that my work gave me starts to feel sluggish.

Their phones are always great quality. I think Windows 10 will make a stride in the right direction, but they really need to ramp up incentives or something to get developers on board. If they can get the phone platform caught up with apps, I would be glad to use it.

I want that Surface book looks great but that price is crazy. I look forward to Microsoft making their on laptops and cutting out manufacturers who do nothing but load em w/ bloatware

For what you're getting from the surface book I would think it is well worth the price. Plus 12 hour battery!

Loved my surface pro 2 when finishing up my undergrad. Starting my masters (online). Using it as an access to either get a macbook or the sp4

"This is an incredibly ignorant and transparent article, aimed at discrediting what might be the best Android devices yet created. These phones arent "ad’s" anymore than an iPhone is an "ad" what does ever mfg what to do? Sell phones.. thats the purpose.

You speak of HTC and Sony potentially exiting the business, what about Apple did to Nokia, who SPAWNED the idea of the iPhone with the N810, N800 series. What about how Apple buried Blackberry, a long time staple in the smartphone arena. HTC and Sony will exit the business if thye fail to innovate, thats not on google to sit around and say ok, lets not please our potential consumer, lets not attempt to lure that unhappy iphone user(LIKE ME), who does want to jailbreak the device to get features which are stock on Android.

Speaking of the 5x undercutting the Pure.. does the Pure have a fingerprinter sensor? Do the Pure and the 5x look exactly alike? I didnt think so.. its called having options.

This website needs to crawl back into the dark, Apple created cave it came from. This is ridiculous reporting and I am highly offended at you all questioning the intelligence of your reader by posting such transparent drivel. wtf"

The verge is such bs. This article alone, lets me know that Apple took immediate notice of the 6p, since the verge is their talking head

Surface book is an L.  too expensive and hideous looking keyboard.

Textra users, have you ever had persistent notifications on the app icon? I read all my messages and even used the "Mark All as Read" option but the app icon still displays a number. Not a huge problem, just kinda annoying lol

Also, it looks like I'm not getting pictures in MMS group messages. I get group texts but if someone sends a picture I can't see it. I might have to switch back to Messenger if I can't fix this.

Thinking this new Nexus 6P might be my next phone. Never owned a Nexus and at that price point for an unlocked device is very tempting. This Note Edge battery has been terrible lately and I haven't even upgraded to lollipop yet :smh:

I've said it at least 3 or 4 times in the past on here, but tech journalism is one of the basest forms of journalism ever created. I think Hitler's propaganda machine had more legitimacy.

Most of these tech writers probably couldn't even get hired by PerezHilton.

couple questions.
1. with HTC's unveil october 20th is the phone going to be dropping shortly after like how apple does it or will there be a delay til it launches?

2. is the nexus 6p supposed to be hitting retailers like best buy? if so do you think they will be offered through carriers with upgrade/subsidized pricing or will it just be sold strictly unlocked ofr $500?

Not sure about Q1 but for Q2, 6P is only going to be sold on Google Store unlocked.
