He is corny but he doesn't have to be, ie he trys harder than he needs to, which is probably what got him in this corner because he thought he knew what would appeal to Prof. Griff so he amplified it. His standup was basically "laugh, please laugh!!!". Not corny enough to not rock with him and what he's accomplished though.

The problem is Nick Cannon is smart, but he wasn't ready to jump out there with a statement like that. You would have to be a very powerful black person to do something like that or a person that isn't scared of white men trying to take things away from you.
