Unpopular Opinion(s) Thread

I remember watching a video about single family housing near subways/metros doesn’t really make a lot sense and kind of agree. But there’s been a shift here in the DMV area, lots of multi family development near metro stations.
If you put high rises far from public transportation, people have to depend on cars which creates traffic and congestion. Also if you live in a high rise near a station, there’s incentive to live there cause the city is accessible anywhere on the line. I’d be interested to see the video you speak of though, to learn about any arguments against it.

Some doors lead to places old heads know better than to enter.

There's a reason older folks (black and white) were against desegregation in the 60's...

Even Rev Dr. MLK Jr. came to understand why as time went on.

Funny how that works.

Go on. I want to hear all about the benefits of segregation for black people.

Exactly. Some people want to mix some people want to stay together. Both should be able to do whatever. itll work itself out like a natural selection process. But the part of racism and segregation that gave an advantage to certain people as far as job hiring, resource availabilit, and just control over how people eat and the money is allocated gotta stop.

Densifying neighbourhoods that are along the subway is essential to providing affordable housing to people
Not that I disagree, but the fundation of nymbyism is in the pejorative understanding of affordable housing.

Our very North American culture of talking policy in coded language has made it so that this expression is synonymous with poor people, when all kinds of people rely on affordable housing options.

I mean if I was black back then o just want my rights as a human. All that back of the bus different water fountain business is crazy. But after all that I wouldn’t want to be around white people either. Bit if I have to go outside or my kid gotta go to school here I I don’t want no problems

Almost all housing in Toronto has become unaffordable. Then again everyone wants single detatched homes. For example you probably need a household income of 200k and help from you parents who take home equity line of credits in order to afford the down payment. And that’s for like a 1mil townhouse.

So even high earners need “affordable housing”

The thing about folks complaining about the end of segregation is that they tend to want people to respect their rights without wanting to extend the same respect to people they have biases against.

But you can't have your cake and eat it too. It can't work this way.

The bias was created when the country was created. It’s founded on it. ion know it’s like a religious argument there’s no end. The only thing gonna change it is time And for it to phase out

re: Segregation

I have always wondered if us becoming assimilated into "their" world has caused us (as a whole) to be less ambitious when it came to creating our own.

I think about the all black communities of past that were able to able to flourish independently. (Maybe white banks were still involved though?)

I know there are a lot of black suburbs that are thriving but they still rely on white businesses to survive. (Banking, Medical, Grocery, School)

But yea, sometimes I just wonder.

The interstate system sits on the ruins of many of these communities.

If you don't have a say in or control the legal system and the economic, social, and political decision making processes, how can you really talk about independence?

Medium/medium well can definitely be good. Most of the time well done is only terrible because the chef is spiteful.

I have nothing to back this up and it’s just a theory
