Not elite athleticism
Not elite athletcism by running and jumping. He's got elite hand eye coordination and quickness I'd say.

A dude like AI is wayyy more the underdog story than Steph to me. 6 footer, growing up in a tough surrounding, facing plenty adversity along the way.

AI being way more of an underdog story doesn't mean Steph doesn't have an underdog story as well.

But we can agree to disagree.

He is a Hall of Famer.

He gets the last laugh

That’s.... the point. Jackie Mac and the Boston writers weren’t doing deep dives on Kyrie’s exit from Cleveland (an obviously questionable incident). Instead, they were working overtime on puff pieces about how this was a great sign because he wanted to take the next step in being a true leader. That Boston was the perfect match and his home for the future. As always they picked up Ainge’s water and spin as aggressively as he asks. And that narrative drowned out many of the very legitimate questions about what happened in Cleveland.

And many of the Boston fans in here were arguing till they were blue in the face (leaving out the good ones like @getback, we know who the true homers are) that anyone questioning Kyrie’s exit was just a hater.

Now he’s Satan incarnate apparently. Pick up that water.
But, Jackie's sources are Boston heavy. Why wouldn't she be able to do a much more in-depth story post-Boston after she's reported heavily on how his time went there? She literally has quotes from KD alluding to Kyrie being a little different.

Kyrie's time in Cleveland was discussed extensively. This isn't like some new story. I don't believe that Kyrie is just this horrible dude, but we've seen him in two different places now with similar issues.

Had no idea Anthony Carter was a member of the Heat staff. Must be getting payback for his agent "forgetting" to file his contract paperwork back in the day.

why is it either/or and not both?
Operative phrase: TO ME.

I just don't see the kid who grew up with all of the advantages of the world as an underdog, but I still hold him as a amazing player, HoF, potential GOAT PG, dude who single handedly changed the NBA, all the same.

Yeah and the point is, because her sources are Boston heavy and she works hard to maintain those sources, she writes stories that will please those sources in Boston.

Result here was they swept Kyrie’s issues with Cleveland under the rug and absolutely trashed him when he left Boston. That’s what’s tiresome, these coordinated media campaigns because there are so many prominent Boston writers. I just want a neutral perspective.

I’m not commenting on Kyrie specifically I think there are obvious warning signs with his personality from the beginning but the scapegoating in Boston also got a little extreme.

He grew up with a dad in the NBA, had access to all of the best training, facilities, and guidance his entire life lol. Him being underdog story is purely based on his size.

Being a 3 star recruit that came from Davidson don’t play a part?

I mean his dad could be God and from a basketball perspective doesn’t his path still say he beat the odds against him?

If Marcus Jordan had turned himself into a lottery pick out of Central Florida...would the only thing that would make him an underdog is the fact that he was undersized?

I think it’s commonly accepted that Dame and CJ fit the underdog mold. Are they “more” of an underdog because their dads weren’t pros? If so I don’t understand the rationale.

You’re arguing with the completely irrational logic of people who don’t want to give Steph credit. And realizing it’s totally irrational.

The person who I quoted isn't irrational. I'm not talking to the nincompoops in this thread that NEVER use any logic.

i think Steph played his way out of being viewed as an underdog. remember nobody knew of him until he went on that crazy run at Davidson. Then he was viewed as an underdog but after that he put himself on the map and folks took him serious. now I'm not saying I predicted he would have this great career but it certainly hasn't surprised me after that Davidson run. than again I know some folks don't watch college ball.

I never said HE was irrational. I said the logic for not giving Steph credit was irrational. It’s based on dislike that isn’t connected to basketball.
