MUST BE THE MOYESIE! MAN UNITED STOCK PRICE SOARS AFTER SACKING
APRIL 22ND, 2014 BY THOMAS HAUTMANN

How much can the value of the world’s most popular club depend on a single man? Evidently, quite a lot.

When the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down as Man United manager last May, MANU stock nosedived from a share price of $18.44 to $15.16 in only a month! Under the disastrous reign of David Moyes, the stock continued to plummet, reaching a 52-week low of $14.26 in February.

But since March, MANU stock gradually rose once again. Coincidentally, this was around the same time rumors of Moyes’ possible firing first surfaced. Hmmm! And once Moyes did finally get the ax early Tuesday morning, United’s stock suddenly became a hotter commodity than rare Pokemon trading cards in a late 90s middle school cafeteria.

Tuesday evening, MANU stock closed at $18.78/share after opening at $17.90. A week ago, the stock closed at $16.26; that’s over $2.50/share less. We are no financial experts here, but we do know that’s a big difference. In fact, the value of the club was at over $3 billion by market close Tuesday, an increase of $100 million since Monday, the last day Moyes was still in charge.

As hip-hop artist Nelly might say, “Hey, must be the Moyesie!”

Daily Mail: During Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Olympiacos, a substitute for United shouted ‘send him off’ to the fourth official. In an attempt to get David Moyes sent to the stands. The player then also said ‘we’d be better off anyways’. It was one of the following players: Giggs, Fellaini, Lindegaard, Hernandez, Welbeck, Kagawa and Buttner.

BBC source says that Giggs is interim for sure but won't be the long term selection. so techincally can he be player-manager or no? what would qualify for him to do that? or is it not allowed in the top leagues?

I've seen enough reporters saying he should be given more time. More often than not, it's British media and former players crying cause they want someone from the UK as manager of a big club.

Give him more time they say: Show me where in the season where he looked like he was improving.

He wasn't given money to build his side yet they say: Have they forgotten Moyes had the entire summer to build his squad, he is the one who decided to show up a couple weeks into appointment after taking a holiday. 200m on a guy who spent 70m on two players that United didn't even need? Then let's not forget his God-awful courting tactics with Thiago, Herrera, Fabregas.

He isn't, never was, and never will be good enough for a top tier PL side.

All of that "run to the wing, and cross to the target man" stuff works when scrapping for 10th.

Damn, sad news on Moyes. Should have been given a lifetime contract after getting the SAF Seal of Approval. Oh well, I guess the only hope is that he left such a lasting impression that Utd is haunted by the ghost of Moyes for the next era of the club, swathed in mediocrity and holding onto memories of Sir Alex. RIP David Moyes' career |I

Barca's transfer ban suspended. UEFA is a joke

Coming from a Barcelona fan I'm happy but I had a feeling this was gonna happen. Nowadays FIFA can be paid off for practically anything, Including hosting the WC in a country like Qatar.

FIFA is a joke. If you won't enforce any rules or will flip flop, then admit you're full of **** and don't intervene.
All they did was soil a club's reputation for nothing
I wonder though, had Barcelona not been knocked out of the CL, lost in the Copa de Rey and pretty much lost la Liga if the ban would have stood.

The ban may yet stand, it's just been suspended as it's in the appeals process. Performance hasn't anything to do with it.

This isn't the first transfer embargo - see FC Sion. They were banned from transfers but it took over a year before FIFA was able to enforce it.

And yes, FIFA is certainly a joke, but Barça's board doesn't need any help in soiling the club's reputation. The club will endure, though, as always.

"To have been appointed as manager of Manchester United, one of the biggest football clubs in the world, was and remains something of which I will always be incredibly proud.

Taking charge after such a long period of continuous stability and success at the club was inevitably going to be a significant challenge, but it was one which I relished and never had a second thought about taking on.

The scale of the manager’s job at United is immense, but I have never stepped away from hard work and the same applies to my coaching staff.  I thank them for their dedication and loyalty throughout the last season.

We were fully focused and committed to the process of the fundamental rebuilding that is required for the senior squad. This had to be achieved whilst delivering positive results in the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League. However, during this period of transition, performances and results have not been what Manchester United and its fans are used to or expect, and I both understand and share their frustration.

In my short time at the club I have learnt what special places Old Trafford and Carrington are. I would like to thank the United staff for making me feel so welcome and part of the United family from my first day. And of course thank you to those fans who have supported me throughout the season. I wish you and the club all the best for the future.

I have always believed that a manager never stops learning during his career and I know I will take invaluable experience from my time as United's manager. I remain proud to have led the team to the quarter finals of this year's Champions League and I remain grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for believing in my ability and giving me the chance to manage Manchester United”.

before we completely change topics.. i don't hate tiki taki footie.. I enjoyed it under Pep initially.. i think it becomes boring when you can tell the players are just holding possession with no real intent to try and score (I personally enjoy high tempo attacking teams). The issue they are probably having now looks to be players who have been bred into a system are now having to play for a manager who doesn't quite subscribe to the same football philosophy. I watch them and i feel like a lot of them are not too sure of their role on the team at times..

Any type of football is boring to watch if there isn't an exciting talented player(s). Likewise if there isn't a good manager that can coach a team to excellence. Tiki taka is no different. When you have a coach that knows what he's doing & has the players to carry out what he wants, you're almost always going to see great results.

Like I said, if you don't like it, you don't like it but I can't understand how people don't find enjoyment in watching the beautiful one touch passing, the movement, & most importantly the scoring. Your imposing your will on the other team making them move the way you want them to & keeping the ball for yourself. :rolleyes

Some of the best football being played this campaign has been possession based footy; Liverpool, Everton, PSG, City, Roma, Juve, & Bayern....

Edit - :rollin If van Gaal does indeed become United's next manager, he might be feeding into his rep of wearing out his welcome even quicker if the rumor of him wanting Roy Keane as one of his assistants.

My worry with Van Gaal, is how far Netherlands get in the WC.

There's A LOT of transfer work to do, and if he's still tied up with Netherlands, how much time will there really be for him to ship out the dead weight, and bring in whoever he has in mind.
