The Ultimate Football Thread 2013-2014 Vol. 4 EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A etc

Random thought but it sucks that Zlatan plays club football in a relatively obscure league and internationally for a team that can't crack the World Cup.
 
For some of you who have HBO or HBOGO, there is a show under "Latino Series" called "HDP" (Hijo da puta/S.O.B.). It's a comedy/drama about the life of a football referee in Brasil whose ultimate goal is to ref the world cup.

I've seen a couple episodes, funny stuff. If you don't mind captions you should check it out. I can't understand half of what Brasilian's say anyways so I'm mostly going by the captions anyways.

damn it's a cold world. They used to be teammates and he would hang out with Maxi and his wife. Then I guess he started smashing the wife, she got a divorce and now he stays posting selfies with her and taking pics with Maxi's kids. On top of that he scored 2 goals today just to add salt to a huge injury :smh: I'd probably drop kick the dude mid game.

Manchester United have denied that that the club have met with Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal this week amid speculation he is being lined up to replace manager David Moyes.

Reports in the Dutch press claimed that United powerbrokers, including joint chairman Joel Glazer, had interviewed the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager in Europe over recent days.

But sources at Old Trafford have told ESPN that they are adamant this is not the case and that no such meeting has taken place.

United have remained supportive of Moyes, despite a disappointing first year at Old Trafford that has led to questions over his future in the job.

Van Gaal, who is in his second spell in charge of his country, has confirmed he will leave the role after the World Cup and has been open about his ambitions to manage in England before he retires.

He said earlier this year: "I have said before that a challenge should be a club in the Premier League. That’s a challenge."

Van Gaal has been strongly linked with Tottenham, whose head coach Tim Sherwood seems likely to leave at the end of the season, and his fellow Dutchman Ruud Gullit claimed last month that the 62-year-old’s appointment at White Hart Lane was a "done deal."

In a stellar managerial career, Van Gaal has reached three Champions League finals, winning with Ajax in 1995, and has won four league titles in his homeland, plus two in Spain and one in Germany.

United are certain to end their first season under Moyes without silverware after they exited the Champions League to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

They are seventh in the Premier League and are almost certain to finish in their lowest position since 1990 and to miss out on Champions League qualification for the first time since 1995-96.

Job-hunting Louis van Gaal is waiting for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to commit his future to the Emirates before deciding on his own next move, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

The Holland national side boss was in line to take over from Tim Sherwood at Tottenham in the summer. But Van Gaal is hedging his bets in case Wenger goes.

Old Trafford is another potential Premier League berth for Van Gaal – as revealed in People Sport – although Manchester United insist they are sticking with David Moyes.

On Saturday, the Reds dismissed reports from Holland that Van Gaal had held talks with chief executive Ed Woodward.

A United spokesman said: ”No such meeting took place.”

Privately, they believe the Dutchman, who will leave his Holland job after the World Cup, is using them as a stalking horse ahead of negotiations with Spurs.

Van Gaal’s clear interest if the Gunners' top job becomes available is more evidence that he is keeping all his options open.

The 62-year-old former Barcelona, Bayern and Ajax coach wants his next job to be in English football and is said to have already met Spurs supremo Daniel Levy.

The Qatar World Cup Is A Disaster: 1,200 Workers Dead, New Bribery Investigation

A report from the International Trade Union Confederation says 1,200 migrant workers from India and Nepal have died in Qatar since the country was awarded the 2022 World Cup.
The ITUC estimates that 4,000 migrant workers will die by the time the first game is played in 2022.

The report is in line with recent death numbers from the embassies of the two countries.

The Nepalese embassy in Qatar reported last month that 400 Nepalese workers had died working on World Cup projects since 2010. The Indian embassy reported that 500 Indian workers had died in Qatar since 2012.

There are 1.4 million migrant workers in Qatar, the ITUC reports, many of whom are now tasked with building the infrastructure necessary to host a World Cup from scratch.

From the ITUC report:

"Whether the cause of death is labelled a work accidents, heart attack (brought on by the life threatening effects of heat stress) or diseases from squalid living conditions, the root cause is the same – working conditions."

A Qatari World Cup organizing committee strongly denied the validity of the mortality numbers reported by the ITUC.

The committee told the WSJ in a statement:

"The International Trade Union Confederation’s statement that our standards have no credible enforcement mechanism is hence both incorrect and misleading. We know that there are issues. While this process of change is not something that can be achieved overnight, we have the will and the commitment to see it through."

Workers at the Lusail City construction site told the Guardian that their bosses have withheld pay, forced them to work in 122-degree heat with no rest for food, and confiscated their passports to make sure they don't leave the country.

Combine those complaints with squalid living conditions, and some are calling the situation in Qatar "modern day slavery."

In February, the Qatar World Cup committee released a new charter outlining increased standards for pay and labor conditions for workers.

FIFA executive committee member Theo Zwanzinger said in a statement that the organization will look into the claims:

"As the organiser of the FIFA World Cup, FIFA acknowledges its responsibility to look into human rights issues in the host countries of its flagship event. We will continue to look into this matter and work with all stakeholders so that feasible and sustainable solutions are found."

The Qatar World Cup committee is facing criticism about everything from the heat to the legitimacy of the vote that award them the event.

FIFA will vote in 2015 on whether or not the tournament will be moved to winter to avoid the oppressive summer heat — a decision that would have far-reaching implications for professional leagues and TV contracts. Qatar initially promised to hold the event in summer by using space-age cooling systems, but quickly abandoned that stance.

More importantly, there's a new report from the Telegraph that says ex-FIFA vice president Jack Warner is being investigated by the FBI for taking a $2 million payment from a Qatari company shortly after the 2022 World Cup vote. The company in question is owned by a man who was given a lifetime ban from FIFA after being found guilty of bribery charges.

FIFA's decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar was criticized from the beginning. In the three years since they won the right to host the event, Qatar has done little to change that widespread skepticism.

Vice actually did a story on quatar and the Arab emirates soliciting Indians and pakistanies to come over there and work. Promising themgood pay etc. Instead they take them and throw them in camps like slaves.
 
van Gaal waiting on Wenger has become the growing speculation as of late. He is similar to Wenger in many ways. Most want Wenger to stay even if it is with a like replacement, which is understandable. But he would be a good replacement. I understand the speculation, especially considering his strong relationship with Jonker who will be our new academy head this summer. I posted a post from a blog recently that made some good points about it. I believe there is a board meeting this Thursday. I'm sure they will discuss Wenger's contract situation, summer transfer window, and player contracts. Hopefully something very positive comes from it.

Tim Payton who is the spokesperson for the Arsenal Supporters Trust, tweeted earlier that Wenger is looking to offload Giroud. Even he tends to be in the know, I don't believe it. Podolski, yes but not Giroud.

Sim, eu falo Portugues, falo muito bem. Mas Portugues de Brasil a muito diferente.

It's like someone from England trying to understand someone from Louisiana, or vice-versa, if you know what I mean. I know undestand most of it but sometimes Brasilian-Portguese is very difficult catch every single part. In some cases they use different words, different phrases, and the accent is night and day.

I know what you mean. When I was in Brazil, their accent was different from my dad's.
 
some baffoon "agent" on twitter is reporting that Klopp will indeed listen to talks with barcelona and united this summer but is keen to stay at dortmund, he is also reporting shaw to united is official :rolleyes
 
I don't think Klopp is going anywhere, even if Reus goes.

LVG stories are just getting ridiculous now, reports are just writing to sell papers, Spurs, Arsenal and United all at the same time all of a Sunday. :smh:
