Sporting Club CEO Robb Heineman plans to make “a major announcement” Wednesday night in conjunction with Wyandotte County and Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, according to a news release from the club.

The details of the announcement were not disclosed, but U.S. Soccer and Sporting Club said in April 2013 that it would explore the possibility of Wyandotte County serving as the site for the U.S. Soccer National Training and Coaching Development Center.

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County submitted plans for a new project to the planning commission on July 14 — a project that included a new $65-million National Training and Coaching Development Center anticipated to open in 2015.

The 100,000 square-foot facility would be located at the corner of 98th Street and Parallel Parkway, according to the submission, which refers to the project as the “Village East STAR Bond Project District.” It would include seven outdoor soccer fields and one indoor field.

The announcement Wednesday will take place at 6 p.m. before Sporting Kansas City’s match against Manchester City, which starts at 8 p.m. Mayor Mark Holland of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and other officials will also be present.

According to the county’s submission, the initial phase of project expansion calls for the development of the soccer training facility, multiple restaurants, retail and commercial buildings, a 150-room extended stay hotel and a nine-dealership automobile dealership plaza.

The submission to the city planning commission also included a feasibility study that was conducted by Canyon Research Southwest, Inc., a commercial real estate research and analysis company based in Buffalo, N.Y.

The study concludes the project is “a suitable destination amusement, hotel and retail development site possessing the necessary infrastructure, size, access, visibility, exposure, trade area demographics and tourism market.”

roma and pool...decent game considering it was a friendly. not a lot of chances but fun to watch regardless. nice seeing Totti play...might be the last time i see him live. wish liverpool played some more of the top guys but oh well.
